And he decides since he can't feasibly get his 66 Plymouth down there, he'd take on a little 'project' truck....

Here we go.
1983 Dodge pickup with clapped out 318 four bbl.
I provide the ' dial-a-mechanic' and walk him through 727 upgrades.
All goes smooth unexpectedly I might add.
Then we move to the uber hacked "rebuilt" quadrajunk sitting on top.

Here we go. Sometimes, no matter how many times you tell someone the whistle is blowing, rails are shaking, son, get off the track...some folks gotta get hit by that train....

He gets hit SPLAT!
Tried and tried to tell him that quadrabog is not gonna run right for his daily...he had other ideas. Like rebuilding it against my better judgement and major protest. Ok son, what's the problem?
" this turd is acting up again!"...
"I tried to tell you slick"..
"Well, I see there's an Eddelbrock (remember this word for later) spread bore on Ebay I can get for $125.0. Looks good from the pics"..

"Son, you are bad as some of the guys on the forums. Aint I told you bout buying used junk?"...
"Yeah, but wtf I won't have nowhere near what a new one would cost right?"...
" that's if it don't need a total rebuild after you find out its missibg or has miss matched parts inside right?"..
"Well, I doubt he's gonna take my offer anyway so..."

Another phone call later on....
" so I got that Eddy carb. I swear this ain't the same carb in the pics!"
" oh yeah? Whys that son?"
" well its missing all the linkages and i opened it up and its full of sh*t like that Holley you bought for $10.00"..
"Well, you gonna have to make it work I guess"
" I'm buying a newer Chinese knock off Rpm airgap intake so it will fit"...and after rebuild, I got $225.00 in this carb. I'd like to get going with this one if I could"....

Facepalm.......

"So your swapping the whole damn intake to get the carb to fit??"
"Well, it won't fit the stock Q jet intake will it?"
" I guess not".

Another phone call later on still....
"So after many coolant leaks, I now have the carb back together and intake on and running, but its running like crap and has a major whistling noise now"
" son, did you use an adapter when you used that SQUARE BORE intake with a SPREAD BORE carb?"
" nope! You ain't gonna believe this, but it bolted right on. I even checked it looking up through the runners with a flashlight".
"How the hell did you look up the runners on a dual plane intake slick?"
"I looked up the ones I could see tgrough and the rear butterflies are opening"...
" son, did you match the gasket up to the bottom of the carb?"
" not really".
"Hmmm.and you say you got a whistling noise?"
"Yeah, it must have an internal vacuum leak inside the Venturi"...
" son, there's no way in hell there's vacuum inside the carb as the fuel would be sucked back out instead of being pulled into them"...
"Well I dunno then and this pos is pissing me the hell off!!!"..
"Calm down skippy, you just HAD to have that Ebay carb against my better judgement, so I'm thinking yiu got a base plate miss alignment on the carb gasket"...

"Can't be!! I checked to see if it fit the intake before I bolted the intake on though"...
"Son, didn't you say that was a SPREADBORE carb?"
"Yeah"
"And you bolted it onto a square bore intake".
"Your point?"
"Pull the carb and tell me if the impression looks like its not sealing around the back bbls"..
"Ok, but I still don't think that's it. It'll hafta wait till tomorrow. I'm done with this turd tonight!!!"
"Ok slick"

I get a text tonight with a picture of the gasket all sucked in around the rear bbls with this message attatched.

"Why are you always right?"

My reply:
"Cause if it can be done wrong, I've usually done it at least three times".....

Have a nice day slick.

Pops.

I've leaned allot of things the hard way myself. Sometimes it's the only way, because were only human.
It did make me think of a quadrapuke experience I had with my 72 chev C10. I wound up replacing it with an NOS Holley economizer (economaster?). Haven't had any problems except that I haven't figured out how to hook up the passing gear cable.

Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....
