Issues with Mickey Thompson radials?

A couple months ago I bought a new set of Mickey Thompson S/T radial tires (235/60-15), and today noticed that one has cracks in the sidewall right near the rim.
Has anyone else had problems with Mickey Thompsons?

Hmmm....bought my set in May of 2010 & just checked them out in the garage.....nothing visible on mine :shruggy:

A friend of mine has some MT's and over the last few years he mounts them onto the car occasinally.  Since they are on there now I checked his today when I was by his shop and they look alright too.

Thanks for the input guys!
I'm less than happy with the last set of Goodyear GT II's, and BFG T/A's I purchased for a couple other cars I own, so I thought I'd try Mickey Thompson's S/T's and was not at all happy to find cracks in one of the sidewalls!  :rotz: :icon_smile_angry:

That kind of damage you describe may have occurred during mounting. I'm not ruling out a manufacturing defect, but that area is pretty much stress free otherwise.

Yes, I considered that. I'm less than happy with Discount Tire Co. They wouldn't even stand behind the tire because the set of four was 'special order" as they put it. Apparently M/T agreed to warranty the tire but Discount Tire said they would have to charge me 30% of what I paid for the tire to get the replacement.
How's that for service from a tire store that I've purchased five sets of tires from in the last three years?  Apparently they have so much business they don't feel the need to take care of their good customers!  I'll be purchasing tires elsewhere in the future!

Nobody is gonba send back a special order tire for dry rot cracks. No money in tires anyway.

Don't tires have a date of manufacture code on them somewhere??   Odd tires may set on the self for a long time. :shruggy:

Dry rot? You must have missed the part about them being new. They've only been on the car a couple months.

Yeah, these are not old tires. I checked the date on the tires, they were produced in December of 2012.

Fyi, doesn't have to he old to sit in the sun and dry rot. We have bias ply tires on the rack right now that are 'new' and I wouldn't run them.

Mickey Thompson has only been producing these tires for a few years, so age shouldn't be an issue. You can pretty much rule that out.

I have a set of Hoosier tires that are less than 1 year old and have dry rot cracks so age isn't the issue. UV rays are.

Just a thought on old tires.  A tire sets on the shelf and looks great but continues to oxidize and harden.  You take it off the shelf and the tire looks great.  Put it on the car and it still looks good.  Run it for a while and as the tire flexes the cracks start to show.  Lots of things go into how long it takes.  You may have a poor tire to start with, who would know which problem it is?? :shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy:
