torsion bar dust boot install

I am trying to install a new dust boot on my torsion bar, having a bitch of a time getting it over the lug.

Does anyone have any tricks on getting them on with out messing up the new paint? I tried heating it up but that did not work well.

Id be curious as well. Mine never made it over that lip either.

 use plenty of grease &  warm it up with  hair dryer or hot air gun a little , press it on with your palm & sort of work it over the hex end sort of thing ,   how I done mine  ,   use new MP boots  on 1 inch bars

i cut the end off a funnel, so the bigger end just went over the hex,greased it up & it slid right on.

  good thinking  !! never thought of that  clever     used it like  a driveshaft CV boot  tool

I like the funnel idea

can the bar be installed from the front with the LCA in? I didn't try that. that way you can install the boot out side of the car.

cdr  had the same issue, these modern synthetic rubbers are hard, tip from a window guy here, kerosene wet rag wipe over come back do it again and again , softened mine up popped straight on, checked them while I was under there the other night, gone back to being hard and didn't seem like they would come of easily

You'll be able to slide it over a same size socket with some lube easier,
then put the socket at the end of the bar and continue to push it over the bar hex.

Works like a charm, also helps by heating the boot in some hot water for a couple of minutes.

OK  what I did.

I slide the seal over a large funnel. then pulled it off and slide it on a 15/16 deep chrome socket.

slid the torsion bar into the trans cross member and then took the seal from around the socket and it went on the torsion bar lug very easily. no heating up the seal or lubing up the bar, went on dry. took 3 minutes.

I installed my hotchkis with ease!!!! 


I used a heat gun and it slipped right over the bar and right into the cover part of the torsion bar!!!
