Auto shifter knob - allen head screw

Hi all,

I need to buy a replacement allen head screw that secures the chrome shifter knob on a console shift 1968 Charger.

I've been going nuts on google and ebay but can't find it listed anywhere?

Any help much appreciated!!

Go to the hardware store. Look in the hardware aisle. Bring the knob with you.
Ask for a "set screw". You'll find a drawer of them in different sizes, I think it's 10/24?

Agreed, its not an uncommon item.  In fact that is probably the resaon it isn't on e-bay, it's a little too run of the mill even for there.

Yep. When you say "set screw", most............ most clerks will know what you want.

Asking for an "Allen head" screw will cause the glazed eye effect leading to a hardware clerks coma.

Home Depot has them. Here is a 10/24

Thanks all!!! I'm in Oz so a different range of hardware stores but hopefully they are common here too.

I'll update with what I find.

OK, I won't ask, but maybe you will tell us. You know that you are dying for us to ask, so I won't.

I'm pretty sure any bolt shop would have it.

Mixed success, no luck at Bunnings or a smaller independent joint but went to a specialist bolts/fasteners place and they had something close enough even though it's in black and a little short. Holds the shifter in place fine.

Places here stock barely any imperial stuff, pain in the arse.

Pulled the old one out for a gearbox swap, took all the care in the world and placed it carefully with the other console bolts/screws in a safe spot - when I put it back together it was just friggin GONE, was so pissed off!

Jesus! how many times has that happened to me. I don't know what happens to stuff, especially as no one else ever goes into my garage or shed. And you can search for the rest of your life but one things guaranteed.....you'll never, ever find it again.

Do you know what's even worse? When you store something in a certain place for years and then suddenly think you found a much better place for it elsewhere and put it there instead..........and then..........can never find it again.
Or am I just getting old?

There's only one sure fire way of finding something that you're looking for:  Don't look for it, look for something else instead.  I have no idea how many items I've found that I was looking for, while looking for something else.
