As some of you know, I had to sell my 69 some time ago  :rotz:
Because I wanted to  have a project I bought a solid 72 SE in 2012.
Yesterday the shop finished the prep work and they'll spray the base coat today.
Note that I  didn't want to spend 5K on a pro job, so some corners are cut.
(cheaper type of paint, only 1 base coat,...)
The good part: nothing needed to be patched up or replaced.
Bad part: vinyl top + moist = rusty roof  :icon_smile_blackeye:

I'll post some pics of the progress.

Later today I'll pass by to shoot some pics of the progress.
The painter will spray on a (close) matching red  paint tuesday after sanding down the base coat.
Can't wait!!!

Nice car.  Looks like a solid starting point.  My biggest concern would be if the vinyl top ate the roof it probably did worse to your Dutchman panel.  I have the same car and my roof wasn't that bad (except for the drip rails).  But when I pulled the back glass, the entire bottom channel was eaten away.  Did you pull the rear glass?

Thanks. The previous owner  pulled the vinyl top but didn't treat the surface. The dutchman is really solid, some surface rust, no holes etc.
I didn't pull the glass, no need for it.
The main goal was to preserve more then restore, before autumn kicks in.

How did he repair the roof?
the body guy sanded/filled/sanded/apllied 'I-don't-know-what',... It isn't done the right way but will last another 10 years.
I prefer to get rid of the top but then ...more $$ needed.

Looking Good!  Will you be replacing the vinyl top?  I see the window plugs are visible so I am guessing a new VT will be added to the car, correct?

I have a new vinyl  top laying around. Wonder how hard it is to install it :scratchchin:

I have seen alot of comments indicating a person does NOT want to do a vinyl top after they do it the first time.  I am thinking about the 'spray on' vinyl top option that I read about here.  It would be alot easier however I am not sure how it looks or lasts...

I'll be following your build as mine has come to a stand still, good luck and looking good so far.  :2thumbs:

I installed one on my 69 Charger. It was the first one I have ever done. I just read a lot of articles on it, and a bunch of posts on installing them, when I got my courage up, I took a shot. It turned out pretty dang good for my first attempt, I'm proud of it.

A spray on vinyl top ?.  The real ones don't cost that much.  :shruggy:
