I have a good start the under side has been sandblasted and epoxy primed. I was thinking of body color BC/CC. Some say bed liner is good for sound killer. What do you guys think ? Dose anyone have some pictures from a original under side?

It really depends on what you are planning for the car. Restoration vs restomod. If it's a daily driver that will see all types of roads and weather, then I would use the bedliner. More of a fair weather weekend car, then red with a factory look undercoating. Leaving it just red is great for a show car, but I think would get beat up really fast if you drove it a lot. Looks to be a really solid underside. Great start!

 :yesnod:

if your just going to potter about show on fields  , paint it as per factory  or paint  the whole lot red  :yesnod:
if your going to use the car how its ment to be driven etc  bed liner or   spray on paintable stone chip , can/ use to be able to  buy it in dark gray ,  almost the same shade as the factory  gray primer dip   &  over spray it with red paint , will look sort of factoryish  but will offer  protection  :yesnod:

that's what I done in the end  but with yellow

Looking good, can't wait till mine is at that stage.  Just wondering what is the overall length with the charger on the rotisserie?  Looking to get one if it will fit in my garage. I have 19 feet in my garage to work with.

That's close.  A 2nd gen is just under 18' bumper to bumper.  You gain space by removing the front end but the rotisserie may be a bit too long.

quart of paint to gallon of bed liner was what I was told...     I would have been fine with just black bedliner but it was suggested to me and I did see it done under a '53 Morgan and it was a nice compromise.

The bedliner in and out I saw done to a 70 camaro and it made it really tight and quiet.

I have no need for factory primer / overspray  or glossy overresto'd painted undercarriages myself  :shruggy:

Getting it that clean & smooth is tough. It's only that smooth once during a resto.
Tough call, I guess it depends what you want to do with the car.
I know if I busted my a$$ to get it that clean, I doubt I'd cover it with undercoating or bedliner. That's just me.
If you're going for bone stock, it should be gray primer with body color overspray.
Over-restored, full body color.
Driver or otherwise, undercoating or bedliner if you so choose.

I'd say you did a good job already.
Blasting and epoxy is the first major step.

I'm doing the same as you, but i would hate to cover the underside in bedliner after all that hard work.

Paint the underside everywhere and the spray undercoating on it like the factory did. That way you get the correct color where you dont spray undercoating and the nicest result for al the hard work you did.
Might be overrestored like Bill says but that extra bit of paint makes it look awesome.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Dino

How about a compromise?  Stuff like lizard skin is way smoother than bed liner and supposedly does the same job if not better.  Have your cake and eat it.

I debated a long time on mine.  I spent a lot of time blasting, priming, filling, and sanding the bottom side to get it perfect.  I really wanted to paint it, but I finally made the decision to go with the spray on bed liner.

I think it will look great, and last forever. I am probably a year at least from doing it, but that's my plan.

:yesnod:  This clip seems to be missing on most cars, probably because it's only held on by one weld spot and is underneath the car and completely exposed.

It's on mine and right next to it are some pinholes in my floorpan so I might have to take it of to fix the floorpan....

Sorry, again, to keep butting in.  I also notice that the driver side exhaust hanger is missing.  If you want to make it a dual exhaust car, you'll need one.  Here's what it looks like and here is where you can get one.

OP if you need to have those things added to the underside then don't worry, you won't have to ruin your paint job.

You can either grind off just enough paint where the weld is going to be and paint the added clip or bracket separate OR you use a body panel glue and stick it in place.

bill440rt

The driver's exhaust hanger was bolted, not welded in place so it wouldn't be body color originally.

Beat me to that one, Dino. I was thinking the same thing.
Just grind a small area, just where the mating surfaces are. A small dab of panel bond adhesive would do the trick no problem.

The one from Hoover bolts thru the floor pan,  just be sure to add a dab of sealer around the bolt holes.   No need for welding.

I would have voted body color tintable bedliner.  But it wasn't an option.  I just did my charger that way, came out pretty good for a roll on job and me on a creeper underneath the car.

I blasted mine....then epoxy primed.......then two coats bed liner....then a clear adhesion promoter coat and then two coats urethane body color paint...tuff as nails now and factory color looking with sound deadening on bed liner

Thats a great idea, never heard of the tinted bedliner one before.

My car will be F5 semi metallic.  Could I use that as a tint for bed liner or other undercoating??

Brian,

That is certainly a great option especially if you plan on driving the car.  How close does it match the exterior paint?

Link to mine.  Paint matches fine, and will hold up well as a DD.  It took just a little bit over half a pint of color to do the underside.
