Really idiotic car commercials

Why are car companies using obnoxiously idiotic car commercials for their cars?
What am I supposed to think about this car when I see hamsters driving it? I know its ugly grocery getter but why diss your own product by having rodents drive it?

Rodents are probably going to be living in it soon enough.  They just want you to know it'll make a nice home for them.
