Strangest sales pitch made for your Charger.............>>>>

I took my "69 out for a nice long cruise yesterday, and when I stopped for fuel on the way home a guy who works the deli at the stop & go place walked out and made what has to be the weirdest sales pitch I've heard yet:

"I'd give an inch off my d**k for that car."

What do you say to an opening line like that? :shruggy:

Well, besides, "Sounds good, but I'd hate to leave you with nothin'". :D

Usually you just hear the old standard, "How much for the car?"

Like the guy who followed me to McDonalds last summer and asked me how much I wanted for my "70 right then and there.

The scary part was he didn't seem shocked when I said, "1 million dollars and it's yours."

Anyways, it got me to thinking about strange offers others have gotten for their Chargers.

Let's hear 'em folks.

Only had one since it sits in the garage most times, some guy offered his motorcycle but it was a honda 1100cc or something. I told the guy I wouldn't trade for a bike as I don't ride plus its an import. Funny stuff because that bike couldn't have been worth more than $1500 but I guess you can't blame someone from trying to get a deal.

While my Charger was in the shop for it's major metal surgery, the shop owner was told to offer me $10K.

While that's not so interesting in and of itslef. It is interesting when you consider what stage the car was in.

It was somehwere between this

and this

Not a question was asked about the rest of the car....

Chargen69

I had a lady about 65 years old run me down in a beat up FURD pickup to let me know that my car was the exact color combo she used to have, and get this, she could make payments to me if I would sell.

Can you say NO, not only NO but "you know what" NO

4402tuff4u

That happen to me too. A guy that collects cars and has his cars maintained at the shop where my Charger is being restored asked the owner for my phone number to see if my Charger was for sale. Kevin the owner of the shop told him that he doubt it and he would ask me. I told him not to give him my number. If he really wanted the Charger he would name his price or make it a point to meet me there. I'm there often every week, same day. He was just fishing for a deal.

My parts car sits in my parent's barn which is open on the side towards the road. I have had about 5 or 6 people stop over the past year and ask if I would be willing to sell it. What sucks is when I say "Yes" and show them the car they usually run away screaming....

I haven't had one person ask to buy my car in over 13 years!
I'm sure that because it's only seen the light of day for maybe 3 weeks total in that whole time, could have something to do with it. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

i chased the guy with  my 68 r/t  into a deli and offered him a  Harley sportster for the car. he said no but i would take
$6800 for it. after some discussion on the price it was mine.  :icon_smile_big:  that was a real good day. Rene

I had a guy approach me at a gas station once.  He's like, "How much you want for it?"  I told him not for sale.  He looked like I just slapped him or something...he acted shocked that I said it.

A guy drove up to meonce in a grocery store parking lot and offered a straight up trade for his 1971 Mach 1 (white over black, 351 Cleveland with a 4-speed, both non-original).   Nice car.  Thanks but no thanks, said I.

Lately, it's not what gets offered, but the quantity of offers.  It seems that most times when it's not in the garage, the car generates at least one offer.   I guess it must have been that movie from last summer.

Most folks seem surpised that I won't at least take their phone number - in case I change my mind.  Great question, Johnny.

Peace,

Neal

Very true.

My Charger has been hidden under toys & junk in my garage, so it's not visible to anyone. (You'd have to trespass to get close enough to see it anyway.) I've had notes left on my Satellite convertible, but I just throw them away since it isn't for sale. No offers, just a lot of deal hunters thinking the ratty old convertible in primer will be a steal.

Maybe when the Road Runner sees some pavement this season I'll have some goofy offer stories.  :shruggy:

I had my 68 down at the tire shop getting aligned and somebody dropped by to ask the shop owner if my car was for sale.  Both my truck and my charger have gotten a lot of comments, though.  Surprisingly, my truck has gotten more than my Charger so far....

Hell, I'm waiting for an offer...

$5 dollars and a coupon for a free Whopper at McDonalds?

No strange offers here, but I have gotten a few.  Most people see me, and the condition of the car, and think that they can get a steal.

Movie?  What movie?  :icon_smile_wink:

I think anyone here that takes there Charger out will get an offer these days, no matter what condition.  The worse the condition, the more shocked a person is when you say not for sale (deal hunters).  The better the condition, the more insults you get from the offers, IMO.
The one time I drove my car to my moms for a visit (she wasn't home) I had 3 offers.  2 on a piece of paper under the windshield wiper (I hate that) and 1 on a napkin in the door handle (hate that too).  NoOw my car is by no means as nice as half the members here( but it still runs and drives good  :drive: ), but it will be.  Then I will really have to keep an eye out becuase I feel that instead of people leaving me offers, they will just leave with my car  :o
Good topic, we will have to revisit it when the "winter" states warm up and everyone is out and about.

I've never gotten any odd offers, but I have gotten offers, some I'm embarrassed to say out loud. Not sure if they were serious, but there were some high offers on the old girl.

Him = "How much you want for that?"
Me = *walks around the car looking at it them looking at guy who made offer*  ???
Him = "You loose something?"
Me = " yeah, apparently I can't see the for sale sign"  >:(

The oddest thing that happened was I got yelled at by an old lady once when I was at a gas station filling up, "How can you drive a car like that with the gas crisis!"

I just blinked at her in shock....... Then layed a 10 foot patch when I left ;)  :drive:

Well to me everyting I have it for sale for the right price.  Now that maybe more or MUCH more than market value but that is what I would want.  I call it the no regrets price.

now, if I ever have the chance and the funds to have my first 69 back, you would never drag it away from me ever again, I would have to be dead, and then I think you would have to pry it from my hands.

I had the reverse reactions when I took my "70 out two days after Rita hit Texas.

There was absolutely no gas to be found for a 30 mile radius of my town, but I was smart and filled ALL the cars before hand.

Instead of using up gas in the daily driver for the short trips I'd take the "70 out.

People would get all excited to see her out and about despite the hardship we were all enduring (no electricity/food/gas and all that during record high temps - 100*+).

The best reaction I got was from the National Guard guys who were there helping the community by passing out ice/water/MREs.

You'd never see a more amped up group of guys when they saw her pull in. :2thumbs:

Wish I'd had my camera for that moment.  :icon_smile_cool:

I've had some interesting ones in El paso. Funny thing is nobody ever wanted to buy my mach 1 in Oregon, but I get to El Paso and I barely had it off of the trailer for an hour and I had some guy want to buy my car. He asked how much for the car. I told him twice what its worth. He asked whats it worth, 12k. He kept pestering me until I got my wheel bearing to replace my whole spindle. I kept telling him no. Some people don't get it. Normally when people come up to me I'm friendly, when they want to buy it I get kind of a scowl on my face and want to leave the area (with my car of course). 3 hours later I had a marine major offer to buy my car. I told him it was also not for sale. He let it go after one question but just said it was a nice car and left.

Now the charger gets the best offers. It was parked on the side of the house while I was getting situated in my house and able to park it in the garage. I was never home but my friend was since he was transitioning out of the army. He isn't a mopar guy but knows what these cars are worth. Some guy asked to buy it from my friend. My friend said its not mine to sell. He said well I'll offer you 3000 for it. My friend told him that might buy the intake manifold and carbs. They guy looked at him funny got a little irritated and left. Another guy came up while my friend was home and offered him 3000 again. When my friend told him the not mine not for sale story he got a little irritated too. He saw my mach 1 in the garage and then asked to buy that. Again not mine not for sale. Then he started to tell my friend it wasn't a real mach 1 anyway and was junk. Then why did you want to buy it? If I were there I would have kiced his ass out of my yard. Moron.  :flame:
