Does anyone know what keeps the push button on the door handle from coming out?

Age? I am having the same problem with my 68 Road Runner on the right door. I am going to try lubing the inside parts better and a little lube on the button. If that does not work I am going to see if there is any play in the handle / Door holes for better alignment.

If that does not work, I am going to try to added some material to the contact area where the button hits the linkage. Spring just might be to weak now or material might be worn off the button stem.

:scratchchin: After looking at your picture it got me thinking. :scratchchin: Get a nut without the built on washer, that will pull the handle closer to the door so there should be more spring pressure. ;) That just might be the ticket.

My right door handle did that (pretty new handle), I took it off and lubed everything up good, especially where the rod pushes on the lever (put a dab of grease on that part). It has worked fine ever since.

Well I fixed mine I think, so far. I took apart my other one and noticed that when I pulled it out the rubber "o" ring was still in the hole. So I put the rubber gasket down in the hole and it worked. I don't know why but I tried it a few times and it still works. If I put the o ring around the plastic knob it doesn't. I wonder if they put something on the o ring to hold it in the housing.  It's a 68 btw.
