I'd go for it.  The T bird is nice, but it's not a Charger!  If it's as nice as he says it is (and that may be the sticky point), it's a good deal.  Check for rust (or repairs) in the  rear frame where the shackles go through, look at the sides of the cowl (up under the dash or look past the door hinges, both sides) and where the inner fenders meet the fire wall.  Maybe take a fridge magnet and see how the quarters are, if it doesn't stick then ask some questions.
DISCLAIMER- Even though I have a 69 now, I really like 73's.  I've owned three so I'm a little biased!

You're giving the Thunderbird away. :Twocents:

Just my opinion...

If you give him $5000 and your car you are only getting $5000 for your car

The biggest problem is the Thunderbird is a hard sell...  It's not a Mustang, so getting someone to pay me the 12,500$ it's ideally worth is near impossible.  Even though the car looks better then a fox stang IMPO, because it isn't one it gets a lot less notice.

The lowest I'd sell the car for cash would be 8500$.  If I flip him for his Charger; I have an easier car to sell once the 68 is ready, or if I fall on hard times.

Do I want to get rid of the T-bird?  Not really, just trying to think strategically for my future.  Clean up the hood and scratch on the fender, and whatever else I find, and post her for 18,500$, take the first 15k someone throws at me and walk away even-steven.  Should work no?

i feel this way, it really boils down to what you want, and what you are willing to give for it. thats the bottom line. if you would rather drive that charger. then cool. if you would sell either car when the 68 is done, then why not drive the t-bird and put the 5 g's into the project? probably if you get the charger, the 68 will become storage while you are cruising the 3rd gen. but that may be what you want to do. good luck with your decision. :2thumbs:

Yes another Charger sitting around would be better than a T bird :)

I have seen that car listed for a while now
He can not get $14000 for it

How far would anybody want to drive a 383 with 410 gears ??
That will need to be changed

Says no rust  Does that mean never any rust or has all the rust been chopped out and replaced ??

How good is the paint job ?
Is it the original colour or is a colour change and you can see the old colour around the door hindges , motor ,ect ????

Is it going to be certified so you can drive it ?

All these little things add to the cost in the end
Like I said you would only be getting $5000 for your car and have a Charger worth $10000 (hopefully :) )

not for a 3rd gen that car is not worth what he is asking for not because i hate 3rd gen it just that the market demand for them is not as great as a 2nd gen.

Dino

Don't forget the car's in Canada.  The classic car prices are not exactly the same compared to the US.

OP do you feel it's worth it?  In the end you have to be the one happy with the decision.  It does look like a nice car but my first step would be having it checked out with a fine tooth comb before anything else.  You may forget all about it once you inspect it.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

If you had a stock 5L in it i would say ok. The 347 is worth atleast 5k by itself.

Patronus

Tough to say. If it were mine Id rather be sitting in the Charger myself.

Indeed, all in it costed me about 7 to build.  Probably worth 5500 on it's own now.  That always seems to be the delema when building a stroker engine, cost vs end result.  I can only guess at what my 410 stroker will cost to build  :-\

Hopefully I'll be able to go check it out on the weekend, we'll see how it goes.  I'd rather have a clutch then a manual reverse valve body.  But hey, it may be something new and fun to drive.  Plus!  I can always rip the Dana-60 out of it, and swap it into the 68 for its 8-3/4 no?

When it comes to cars and even houses, I don't believe in factoring money into the decision.  Why?  Because going into a major purchase like a car or a house with the idea of making money is a bad idea.  You buy a car or a house because you want it and feel passionate about it IMO.  If you say that you don't want to get rid of the 'Bird then THAT'S your decision right there...

lol, if anyone has a decent conditioned 68 project or parts car...  I'll trade you all day!  Just saying...

Still need a black interior, a grille, and some other lil things...
