Well,,,,,,,,,, The time finally came and went. I have ended my long and very fullfilling career as an uniformed member of the United States Air Force. It all started in '87 as a punk kid who's only concern was taking my, then, '68 and '70 Chargers out to car shows. It slowly showed I wasn't going to accomplish things I wanted to at that rate. So, I joined the Air Force to straighten my butt up. Well, after 4+ years in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) loading nuc's and conventional munitions on the B-52, my attitude was "focused".. I got out after Desert Storm and started college. After a break in service, I joined the 147th FW out of Ellington Field, Houston Texas where I worked on F-16's. I thought they were boring compared to the mighty B-52, but that soon changed. After 9/11, I was activated in support of Operation Noble Eagle ( the time when the US was flying Combat Air Patrol sorties around the country protecting bigger cities. During that time, I learned A LOT and pretty much ran the day-to-day flightline operations in regards to the weapon systems. I worked with a lot of good Airman..... During this time, I was able to go on some pretty cool TDY's; Hawaii, Denmark, Spain and Florida. Later on, in '05 and '07, I volunteered to go to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. That was a time of MANY memories, especially the time when we were no more than an hour on base and the mortars started raining on us !!!! This time, it wasn't some simulated exercise back in the States    HIT THE DECK !!!!!

Well, I finished my career working on Predators and going to the QA Inspectors office ( on the flightline, it was "Ah Oh, here comes QA" )

There are so many other events here and there I could talk about, but it would be a book... Pictured with me is Scott, a member here with a R6 '69 Hemi Charger R/T

Cheers,

My Air Force career involves both Active Duty and Guard/Reserve time. I retire as a Traditional Guardsman, granted I have a boat load of "points" to go towards my retirement pay ( points= percentage ). Because I can use my active duty days post-9/11, I can start drawing my pay benefits earlier than age 60. The other benefits will be able to go to the base, on drill weekend, and visit friends, BX or whatever without the anxiety of having to donne another gas-mask...  :icon_smile_big:

I still have a civilian career as a Geophysicist with Chevron and will be working, probably and with God's patience for me, for at least another 15 years ( having a 7 year old daughter at age 49 dictates this  :smilielol: ). But it is all good. I love my civilian career and looking forward in spending more time with that. The military retirment will allow me, at the minimum, another weekend per month with the family and church ( shhhhhhh,,,, and,,,,,,,,,, garage time with Mopars/NFL/NASCAR; both mine and friends)...

So in other words retirement is to enjoy the Dolphins more as well as the Daytona. Sounds good to me.
