Did MSD file chapter 11? Their website says they voluntarily entered bankruptcy.

Wow, really?  First I've heard of it but its a tough world for aftermarket performance part makers anymore.  Crane went down that route not too long ago and thrity years prior who would have seen that coming?

myk

Happens to companies all the time.  Hopefully, this will allow MSD to pay some bills and possibly get picked up by someone who can carry the torch and keep the MSD line alive.  Hey wait a minute...Why don't WE all buy MSD?  Think of the possibilities...

This probably means the end of their free repair policy.

myk

I'm sure their stuff will continue to be sold, so don't worry about that; as for the repair policy, well that might be a different issue...

He we go. Another "Made in USA" ,manufacturer sells out, files bankruptcy, gets bought out by some POS Chinaman running a sweat shop that knows NOTHING aobut what he just bought/took over, and now MSD won't be any better than those POS orange Chrysler ECU's. DAMMIT!

That's sad news... my box is at least 20 yrs old...... love it.

Wow, didn't know their products were made here; I just assumed that they were hecho in China like everything else these days.  It'd be nice if someone else here in the states picked up the company, but that's probably too hopeful...

From the above link:

...The Company restructured its debt in 2009 following the financial downturn as well as a series of acquisitions by prior management, which burdened it with excessive debt. Since that time, the Company has reduced operating costs, introduced award-winning products and accelerated marketing initiatives. The decision to file under Chapter 11 is necessary to facilitate this transaction, which positions MSDP to take advantage of emerging growth opportunities."...

It sounds promising for the repair service:

"Employees will continue to be paid as usual, including their healthcare and other benefits and no layoffs or facility closings are anticipated. Customers will receive their orders as usual and the Company anticipates that there will be no changes in warranties or other customer programs.  Additionally, suppliers will be paid for goods and services after the filing date in accordance with existing terms and contracts."

Ghoste

Thats encouraging news, I hope they come through fine.
