What type of welder is best for repairing stress cracks or pieces actually broken off a seat frame. I hope to repair rather than replace. Thanks

Mig

You can make a nice deep burn weld with a mig without distorting the frame and it's cheap and fast.

For the record, you can use almost any type that will get the job done, but none as easy as a mig.  Take it to your favorite shop and give the welder 10 bucks for lunch.  I'd take it!

Thanks Dino. I have the broken piece held back in place with some tiny C clamps so I'm hoping my local body shop can make small work of this repair.

Very short, especially if you can make it bare metal about 1/4" all around the crack.  They'll put a tack or two on it so the clamp can be removed, then weld it shut.  Got a good grinder at home to clean it up?

Dino, I picked up the MIG welded 94 Blazer seat frame today along with my 99 2 door Tahoe. Both are perfect. I had the seat reassembled/reinstalled in the Blazer in 60 mikes. It goes to the local CarMart at the fairgrounds here tomorrow for sale. I love it when a plan comes together.
