440 stalls at idle and in drive

Got the rebuilt 440 in charger. Running new edelbrock 800 cfm thunder carb. Victor jr intake. Elec fuel pump. Msd box, coil, dist. Hughes solid cam. '72 HP440 short block. Edelbrock heads.

Car starts hard but fires up if I give it gas. Car roars to life. Car idles pretty good for 30 sec and dies. Can put in gear but have to work throttle when moving. Then dies when let off throttle. Carb is new. Idle mix screws never been touched. I have adjusted the idle speed screw but that just takes the idle up too high for use. Car does have gas and fuel to carb. Spark is all there.

Sounds to me like a mix of timing and idle mix. Figured I would ask to see what others think..

What's the initial timing at now or have you not been able to tell? I'm by far not one of the experts here, but if you give it gas and it goes then I was call that rich? Reason being that if it was lean it would stall out with gas, but at a higher rpm it's able to use it? I'd wait for someone else to chime in, but thought I would throw my  in.

Vacuum leaks? Give it a good look over for vacuum leaks. Check fuel pressure to the carb. Too much could be flooding it out. Is there a fuel pressure regulator in your system? Not 100% sure on an Eddy carb but carbureted fuel pressure is usually around 7 psi.

check float levels & mixture screw settings , vacuum leak between the carb &intake is a definate possibilty too

You've "never" touched the mixture screws?  As in, you've never adjusted the 'carb out of the box?  I'd set the 'carb rich and incrementally lean it out until the idle stumbles, then slightly richen it again; that procedure has (sorta) worked for my Eddy 750.
