Ok Ive got a couple of questions
Updating to a Overdrive auto and decided to go with a A518 46rh  I have a good core complete with the torque convertor but it will need a full rebuild and upgrade
The stall on these lock up  torque converters were around the 14-1600 rpm range or so ive been told, and the Chrysler converters were apparantly well built braized units.
Can these lock up converters be rebuilt and upgraded to a higher stall in the 22-2400 rpm range ?

While I was looking for the Jw ultra bell for the 518 - big block conversion I spotted a mopar big block 700r4 ultra bell as well
These trannys are plentyfull and quite a few companies build stout 700r4 performance trannys .

Anyone run a 700 in a 66-70 B Body ?   How well does it fit ? I read there was a bit of a header issue due to the wider pan area ?

Any help appreciated
Ron

Don't know about the fit, but the 700r4's first gear ratio of 3.06 and larger converter choice is attractive.

The factory stall speed rating for the 46RH is 1800-2300 and a more powerful engine will stall higher than that.

When properly built, the 700R4 is a fine transmission, Keisler offers a Mopar conversion based on the 700R4/4L60E so we know it fits. It has the advantage of lower first gear and the OD is inside the case instead of on the rear.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

The 700R4 is physically smaller. It does fit the chassis without cutting anything. It does require a modified trans crossmember.
The 700 does have that deep first gear  of 3.06, but the second gear is a huge drop off at 1.62. If you wind it out in first, the upshift may leave you at the low end of the power band if you have a rowdy cam. Stock cams have a wider power band so they work okay with them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but both trans would require A modification the the cross member

Big Sugar

Yes.  Both require a little crossmember work and there may be a little header interference as well with the 700
