Ted Nugent's Wife, Shemane, Arrested After Airport Security Finds Gun In Carry On Bag

TSA agents discovered the gun in her carry-on bags at a security checkpoint, prompting her arrest.

A love of guns runs in the family, apparently.

The wife of singer Ted Nugent was arrested at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Thursday after TSA agents discovered a handgun in her carry on bag at a security checkpoint. Shemane Nugent was taken into custody, airport spokesman David Magana told the Dallas Morning News, and "the rest of it is working its way through our system of legal approval."

"She is very embarrassed. She's never been in this situation before," Finn told the Morning News. "She has expressed remorse for any inconvenience for any public safety officials."

A police report of Thursday's arrest is expected to be released Friday morning.

I got caught with a shotgun shell in a carry-on a couple of years ago.   The kid on the monitor looked like he was 16 and first day on the job.  Good for him.  The other 40 or 50 TSA agents (in about 18 different airports) on that monitor had missed it

Honest mistake. After you conceal carry long enough you tend to forget you are carrying. I went to look at a job last year for government agency ( vista/passport center). As I was leaving my office it dawned on me that I probably won't make it past the metal detectors and armed guards.

Honest mistake is probably true, but if it isn't allowed by law, then the term, "Ignorance is no excuse for the law" comes into play. Remember the football player that spent time in jail, Plaxico Burress? Although this idiot shot himself accidentally, it's no different in my opinion. He had a gun, brought it into New York City when there is a law banning handguns there & got arrested. If someone is driving their car & is briefly distracted & runs a red light, it was an honest mistake. It's still against the law & you get a ticket for it.

I just find it ironic (and hilarious) that for someone who is married to one of the biggest gun advocates that they end up like this.

Yet no one got killed. Amazing! Had she been carrying an unregistered, illegally obtained automatic machine gun it would have made a better story.

I'm guessing that it was a legally owned and carried firearm - although the article doesn't say. There have been a bunch of celebrities caught carrying weapons into the airport in their luggage. Why any of them fly commercially is a mystery to me.

For many years now, I don't carry my wallet in my back pocket. The Dr. told me to stop and it would help my back. Don't know if the Dr. was right or wrong but it now feels very uncomfortable to "sit" on a wallet.  I carry my wallet, comb (not much to comb anymore), even my money on a small knife (Spyderco) used as a money clip, keys (My daily-drivers all have push button start except my 2004 Dodge Truck) and any other carried on my person items in a 1.75 liter Crown Royal bag. Kind of like a MANLY Man-purse! Ha! Sometimes my carry-pistol  is the only thing in my pocket if carrying one of my J-frame S&W's. Anything bigger usually goes OWB at 2 to 4 O'clock.  Car-carry usually goes in the console or, if my spidey senses tell me to be aware, under my left leg. I am seriously considering crossdraw for car-carry, though

If I go shopping with the wife, when we get to the store, I put my wallet and keys in my free front pocket and put them back in the bag when we get back in the car. I usually do this even when shopping alone as it has become such a habit

The Crown Royal Bag does get some interesting comments, though. One time while I was getting my money out of the bag to pay for parking at the beach, the guy taking the money was a Galveston policeman and did a double-take followed by a laugh as he said "I thought you were going to offer me a drink"!

The big deal with Nugent's wife is that this is the perfect example of an irresponsible gun owner, the one that the anti-gun crowd will point their finger at. And you know, in this case they would be correct. You don't want to give anyone a legit reason to say that you're contributing to problems. If you're outspoken & also a public figure, pay attention to make sure you don't do stupid crap.

lol I'm in the same situation, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make... He made the comment: "I really don't know how someone could "forget" there is a handgun in your luggage".... I was trying to make the point that something you carry every day whether it's a hand gun, wallet, car keys, inhaler or any of the things you carry everyday, you will not have them on your mind all the time, in essence you "forget" that you have them with you.  I don't remember that I carry a pocket knife when I walk into a place of business or anywhere else. The only time I think about it is when I need it.

Tilar,  I don't know how much she flies the "friendly skies" but, I think it is not a very good point that someone could forget there was a handgun in your carry-on luggage.  How many people keep a handgun in a piece of luggage in your home anyway! I have about 15 pieces of luggage, including at least 5 that can be used as a carry-on and, I can guarantee you, there is no handgun in any of them! If it isn't on my body or on the dresser in my bedroom, it is in the safe. She or he would have had to deliberately put it there and deliberately left it there and that is not good gun handling procedure! Don't most people make sure your carry-on is empty before putting it up? I know I do, especially if there was a handgun in it for a road trip of some nature.

Putting a handgun in a piece of luggage and forgetting it is there is just stupid! A lot of handguns are found this way by the TSA so, ....... I guess there are a lot of stupid people flying these days, Or, stupid gun owners as a gun in your baggage isn't going to do you much good if you need it!

I would have to agree with Tilar.  Can you name all the contents of your pockets that is with you at all times, without checking?  I doubt if too many can.  I doubt if the ladies can name everything in their purses either.

Whatever!!   .... I would think if I was flying anywhere these days from a major airport, I would, at, least, check my bags to make sure I wasn't carrying a handgun that I "accidently" left in my carry-on.   DUH  !!!

If by chance you're referring to me as the hater for posting it, that's not true at all. I'm not anti-gun, I'm anti-stupid. An irresponsible gun owner like Mrs. Ted is stupid. There is no excuse what so ever for forgetting you have a gun on you, & it's no where close to being an item in your pocket like a wallet or keys. As a matter of fact, the gun was not on her, it was in a bag which is more dangerous. If she forgot she had it in the bag then she wouldn't know it was missing from the bag if it was taken.

Some of my friends hunt & own guns & some go target shooting. I have gone with them target shooting so please don't think that I have some kind of agenda regarding guns.

Really depends on whether she had a license to carry the weapon or not, not the mistake of carrying into an airport.  If you have a license to carry, you should be able to carry it on planes, in public places and anywhere else in the state you're authorized to carry it in.  People in new york cannot carry, and they know it, visitors to New York wouldn't automatically know this rule or law,  I know i wouldn't look into every state's laws that i may enter on travel to see if my right to carry in my home state applies to other states as well. 

It is only news, because it was Ted's wife who did it, and the media who has moved so far the left that i've lost respect for most of the news outlets, and left the democratic party (and the republican party) to become an independent between the Obama primary election and the national election.  I like Ted, he's always entertaining to listen to, and I do enjoy his music as well, was a fan before I knew what politics even were.

i agree, when i fly i get real paraniod about what is in my pockets and bags.  I could never forget where my guns were
