Hello, question on a 69 charger. Has anyone used coal slag to blast the underside and interior, not the exterior sheet metal?
Also how many 50lb bags would it take to do the underside and interior. I will recycle the material though it is not meant to be recycled.
Thanks for any responses.

Tigger

Ok since nobody seems to have used coal slag how about sand?
About how many bags would it take to do the undeside of a 69.
How many for the interior?

this is what I use, and I think its the same thing you are talking about:

http://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/concrete-cement-masonry/concrete-mix/black-blast-blasting-sand/p-1934753-c-5648.htm

it works great for the price!

I have a 10 gallon bucket with a piece of aluminum window screen over the top and held in place with a ratchet strap.  I pour the "sand" thru the screen before putting it in my blaster to get out the big chunks that would clog the nozzle (learned this the hard way).

My car is on a rotisserie right now.  i put a big tarp down on my driveway, put my 10'x 20' portable garage over top of it and did my blasting in there.  i was able to sweep the sand into a pile on the tarp, scoop it up with a shovel, dump it thru my screening bucket, and re-use it 2 or 3 times without any problems.

what kind of blaster do you have?  I used to have one of the 40lb Harbor Freight pressurized blaster and it worked pretty well.  I not have a 100lb Cyclone and haven't used it yet.

A buddy of mine converted a propane tank into a pressure blaster. Have never used coal slag before so we shall see if any problems surface.
Oh and if anybody wants to know, the brand is Black Diamond.

just make sure you screen the coal slag before putting it in the blaster...otherwise you could have a lot of headaches :brickwall:

I dumped a 100lb bag in a friends blaster once and every 30 seconds the tip would clog from an oversize piece of coal slag.  I had to dump out what I could and then blast until the tank was empty.  It was not much fun.

Yes ive used black diamond and black beauty before with good results I think you will be pleased. I wouldn't use sand as the silica content is higher and I don't think sand is as sharp.

Tigger

I read that it has good cutting qualities but also a low silica. Will wear a respiratory regarless.
It is 7.99 for a 50lb bag at Tractor Supply. They also sell a finer grit of coal slag.
