440 timing issue

Try to start 440. Upon cranking carb makes pop noise and sprays air with a little gas. No flame. I am pretty sure it is timing. I just swapped distributor. Motor has run under power on test stand wth no issues before install in car. I have flipped the distributor 180 already. Was popping through exhaust. Now with going 180 coming through carb without flame.

did you make sure number one cylinder was at top dead centre , & the timing mark on balancer was at  0 TDC  on the timing chain cover tab  , & distributor rotor arm was pointing to number one plug on distributor cap .

did you remover any  plug leads from cap ?

I was off on the plug wires going to thr cap. Dumb.  Moved them around one plug each and it fired. I need to dials in the distributor timing adjust the idle screw
