Another round of 'what is it worth'? 383, 4 speed, shell

So, I have this 4 speed (fender tag), 383 shell. It's ugly, rusty and stripped down.  It was a white car with red interior.  I was trying to sell it as a shell and hoping someone might build it, then I had a look at the fender tag, 4 speed, what??  1 of 259?  How do I know if it's a 4bbl or 2bbl?

What is it 'worth'?   I have it listed for $2500 for starters.

F8-4life

The vin should tell what kind of 383 it had if Im not mistaken.
Being that the car is missing so much, I'd say 2500 would be at the top end of its worth.

It is only worth what someone else will pay

You have it at $2500 so keep dropping the price $100 every couple of weeks till it is sold
Advertise it everywhere and you will get what it is worth

Really depends on why you are selling it
Did you buy it cheap and are trying to flip it for big $$
Or was it your Uncles old car that is just laying around in the way and you just want it gone

Remove rear bumper, k-frame, seat cores, cut the roof.... then haul the rest to the scrapper.  :hack:   You're dreaming at $2500.

The left fender was probably deemed to rusty or full of bondo, that's why its still with the rubble.

Mopar Nut

I sold my 68 shell, org. a 318 replaced with a 440, trans and four tires for three times that and a can of bolts.

For canada, i say thats a decent starting price but yeah list it anywhere you can, someone will buy it... eventually  :scratchchin:

I agree.  With the car in that kind of shape it really does not matter if it was a 4 spd car or not. I would loose the "2" in the price and then hold a 50 percent off sale.  ;)

It says on the bottom line ' XP 29  62  44 908  Axxxxx'   Sept 8th, 1967.  One of the first 7000 built! :)  4bbl 383 so 1 or 259.  For Canada export.

I have a clean shell I can pick up as well for $3500 if some wants to build one car out of two, I will sell it all for $3500.  The other car has a dash and some parts as well.  Is $3500 an ok price for a clean shell and this car?

Man, I can't imagine the hassle of trying to put that thing back together. The body would be a lot of work but it could be done with lots of help from AMD. You'd drive yourself nuts on the rest unless it was pretty much all custom. Odd that they would take EVERYTHING off it except most of the front seats, a few seat belts and the rear bumper. Oh, I guess I should mention the steering column, control arms and sway bar too. ::) If it were a Hemi 4 speed car someone might cough up $2,500 but I seriously doubt you'll get many takers that aren't laughing for more than $500.

Sell it cheap to one of those General Lee/Dukes Fest guys for a jump car.. I mean, since it isn't worth anything clearly...

make a drag car or nascar replica out of it.   build it with 100 percent used parts. have people donate parts. call it the charger rat rod.

I could have bought a 1970 charger in way better shape than that for $1,000. And that was a year ago. It was complete minus the engine, tranny, and hood. It was a 383 auto on the floor a/c car. Not as rare as the 4 speed, but still a desirable car. I even turned it down. So if you could get 500-1,000 for it I'd take the money and run. I'm not trying to sound harsh but I'm just giving my opinion on what I think it's worth. :2thumbs: And good luck with the sale!

Why not build it, bring it to my place and i'll give you a hand

For posterity sake would you mind sharing the vin and fender tag information with me? After all, only 259 of them were made.  ;)

Tough call. I'd rather it be sold as a project than cut up and scrapped. But it is your car, after all, so good luck.

There is a young guy interested in it and I hope he picks it up for $500 (includes dash/vin/fender tags) and builds it up.

I will post the vin/fender tag if the buyer says it's ok.  I would hate to send it to the scrap yard, but it sits on the ground and winter is coming so it will be gone one way or another.

I always assumed that Chargers were worth 'something' no matter their condition, but I guess not.

You were just asking the wrong people.  Never ask the Charger people what its worth. Just stab it up on epay/craigslist and see what happens. Because its never worth much unless its a hemi and then its only worth so much
Just an observation...

It's funny because when I try to buy anything 'Charger' it's worth a billion dollars (just check the classifieds or CL).  But when I try to sell anything, it's worthless.

Strange.

Nobody here is last word on wiw.  You are certainly welcome to use craigslist too.
That way, your add for a $2500.00 rough shell will become another "holy sh*t, look what this guy is asking for this 68" thread here.

Not trying to be a Smart Ass or anything like that, but I still find it hard to get my head around what people are asking for rusted shells.  The cost of buying all the parts necessary to "rebuild" this or most other shells really puts them in the realm of dreaming for most all us regular guys.  You would need another "parts" car just to move the project ahead.  For anything less than an original HEMI or perhaps a highly optioned out car...I would say cut off what you can and let it go to that big junk yard in the sky (or the one down the street, whichever is closer).  The only other option would be if you planned to either race car out of  it, or build some sort of custom out of it...but again, that's mostly dream with a little reality mixed in just to confuse your decision making.   After the dream part is gone, most will find that the reality of the buy sucks. :brickwall:

**Just my two cents.... :Twocents:

*On another note....if this shell does bring in $2,500.00.....I am raising the value of my car another $20,000.00..............(I would raise it more but it doesn't have any rust, so I had to devalue it a bit) :scratchchin:

I'm glad to hear that the car will live, albeit as a "rat rod"  ;) . Please see if he wouldn't mind sharing the fender tag (and perhaps vin) for posterity. Too many of these cars just go by the wayside, never to be heard of again. Thanks.
