Some may find a interruption in their local fast food service as many fast food workers in 50 cities are striking for more money, saying they can not survive on minimum wage.

Here is an idea. . just going to throw this out there.  If you do not like your job. . F-ing quit.  Problem solved.

There are many people out there waiting for you to quit so they can take your spot.  And lets just say they get what they want. A store of 50 employees go from $7.75 an hour to $10.00 an hour. I am just going out on a limb here, but do they really believe all 50 employees services will be retained.  I am guessing they did not think of the 15 employees who will get the axe if this happens, oh well. They are not working the fryer section because they graduated from Harvard with a Economics degree.  :P

I can't fathom why min. wage workers think they deserve more money. I get the point that they don't make very much money, I was there once. I had part time jobs that only paid 5-6 bucks an hour. This is the land of oppurtunity, sometimes you hafta go out and find a better oppurtunity. I banged nails and hated it, joined the navy. Got out and banged on centrifuges for awhile, then landed in a nuclear power plant. You gotta go find it. I'm sorry, McDonalds workers do not deserve $25 an hour. Blaming corporations for your woes is a cop-out. Whatever happened to personal responsibility and pride. Holding your hand out is pathetic, go fight to get it.

Dino

Wait a minute...these guys are poisoning humanity and we pay them for it?  I say take their wages away.  There...
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Im not sure minimum wage is a "fair wage".
Particularly with huge corporations. Most need to be more socially responsible.
A company that makes 900 billion a year that keeps its its employees in poverty is just a POS if you ask me....

HOWEVER

People need to figure out the difference between a job and a career.

McDonalds and Walmart are places where you start your working life and maybe end it.

ws23rt

A fast food worker can make more money.  They can become shift manager.  Then store manager.  Than regional manager. Etc

This called a ladder.  The first rung is getting potty trained. The pay is learning a new task that is an important step that will lead to employability.

JB400

All raising minimum wage does is raise the price of everything else.  A 20 oz. bottle of pop that costs $0.89 at $5.50/ hr. now costs $1.40 at $7.50/hr.  Raise the price to $10/hr. and then everyone will be paying amusement park prices for the same soda.  It's simple economics.

People have NEVER been able to survive and support themselves on minimum wage. If that's the only kind of job you can get, you might want to move back in with mommy and daddy till you learn something. And one thing for sure, with the idiots in Washington talking about raising minimum wage, it's apparent those in charge have no clue how economics work, which also explains the mess we're in.

As far as I'm concerned, they could shut all those fast food joints down. Wouldn't cramp my lifestyle.

You're kidding...right? There is a significant difference between minimum wage and a living wage. Before you start complaining that a multibillion dollar corporation might raise the price of your McRib and soda a few nickels, consider this:

Now a days some people think they should make $25 an hour to do $8 jobs. I lived on $6 an hour, but I worked 2 jobs. I figured out early on that hard work beats complaining every time. Times have changed, but you need to change your circumstances to change your life.

It would appear that some of the employees are lazy or delusional.

I was watching this clip....

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Los-Angeles-Fast-Food-Workers-Nationwide-Strike-221609121.html

I was watching this interview of a worker...

The reporter asked her if minimum wage was enough to pay her bills.
She said no.
The reporter asked her how many hours a week she worked..... she said 5-7.

I was kinda stunned.

I make way more than minimum wage AND work my ass off.  Sometimes doing 90+ hours a week.

Maybe there is a connection?

Steve P.

Once again I see some have NO IDEA what it is like to NEED A JOB!!!

For those of you who think these people should just QUIT, YOU PAY THEIR WAY!!!! What the hell makes you think this is what they want??? I realize that the job market is different all over the country, but I DO NOT THINK all of you realize that fact.. As Burnout said, there is a big difference in MINIMUM WAGE and a LIVING WAGE....

Here's an example for those whom have no clue.

A few years ago we got a new governor in this state. He came in signing bills that NO OTHER GOVERNOR would sign before him.. Shortly after he took office he signed tons of bills and 90% of them hurt the people of Florida. If you own a home or business and have insurance on it, your costs for that insurance has gone sky high. Ours went from $2400.00 per year WITH SINKHOLE COVERAGE to $2800 per year this year WITH ((( NO ))) SINKHOLE COVERAGE, NO EXTERNAL BUILDINGS, SWIMMING POOLS OR SCREEN ROOMS.. To buy SINKHOLE COVERAGE it is now $4200.00 per year for this same exact house.... Did I see that kind of RAISE in MY PAY???

Now this same governor wants us, (FORCING US) to change to 4 different insurance companies.. (Guess who has his hand in the batter)!! All are start up companies with no money or backing. Meanwhile, the company we were forced into 4 years ago is sitting on 60 BILLION DOLLARS of emergency cash..  But that's just more of us getting screwed..

Back to the money issue...

Someone said: Let them quit. Plenty of others to fill the job..

YES, because there are FEW JOBS!!!!!!!!  If these fast food people had silver spoons they would not be there. Isn't this just obvious???? Do you really think people are NOT looking for better wages??? Some of these people work 2 jobs now trying to feed their families!!! Now if they were paid a good wage, maybe they would need only 1 job and that second job could be the next guys......  Or hadn't anyone thought of that??????????????

I'm sorry if I sound pissed, but I damn sure am.. I highly suggest people look from other sides of the window now and then before they piss through one that is open..

I believe some of us can speak from experience, and just knew how to deal with it.  I know when I was short on work, I didn't go out and have a top of the line cell phone, a computer, a high rise apartment, fancy clothes, new car, or someone to blow my cash for me.  But, I'm actually glad that I went through that situation.  I have a renown respect for what I do have because of the amount of work that it took me to get it.  I'm still paying for some of it, or will have some scars from it for the rest of my life, but it's worth it.

I'm under the impression that there are some that are protesting their wages that don't appreciate having very little.  It's better than having nothing.

$6 an hour in 1985 had the same buying power as $13 an hour today...Wow! You were rolling in the dough!!!

Can't help myself, I have to ask the supporters of $15 wages: why not $25? why not $35? why not $55?

There is no rational and economically based answer. The answer is always emotional, about fairness, compassion, social justice, feelings, etc.

Just an observation.

One solution: if every do-gooder would just tip the minimum wage worker $5 for every $5 burger, well them folks would be quite well off, and no striking, etc. But the do-gooders never open their wallets, while they expect everyone else's wallet to be open to solve the do-gooders' problems.

Just an observation.

No one actually makes minimum wage today. The real world minimum is +/- $11.50 per hour after benefits are added in, especially including government aid, support, and the earned income tax credits.

I agree that that is still not a living wage.

One question: why do nearly all the minimum wage workers have nice clothes, sweet new shoes, nice tattoos (often lots of nice tats), nice earrings and piercings, awesome sunglasses, a great smartphone, and often an Ipad, and a Kindle, expensive data plans, while drinking Starbucks daily, and usually driving a newer car than I drive?

Not to mention how much marijuana, vicodin, and Red Bull they consume. :eek2:

Minimum wage life style somehow buys a lot of fun stuff.  :2thumbs:

My observation: low wages and doing dumb things gets a person lots of fun stuff.  Low wages and hard work gets a person ahead in life.  :yesnod:

First, I said that, and I stand by it.

I can piss through that window. At one point I worked three restaurant jobs to pay my bills.  If I did not like one for one reason or another, I quit and found another one, I did not make up a bunch of signs and go on strike.  I went back to school, received three degrees, and now make a decent living.  If they can not find a job they like, they can start their own business. I did it with $400.00 in my pocket, any of these people can do the same.

What you, and most of these employees do not realize many businesses can not afford to pay $12.00 minimum wage.  You raise the wages on these companies and people will be laid off.  And before anyone shoots their mouth off about McDonalds being a billion dollar company and are just in it for themselves, well, yes, they are in the business to make a profit.  But, many of the stores are owned by franchisees.  These are not rich people, they may own one, two or three stores. The profit margins in restaurants are very slim.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How can I say this without making it sound like you don't have a clue??? HMMMM,,,,,
How about, BECAUSE THEIR ARE NO JOBS THAT PAY WORTH A CRAP AVAILABLE!!!!
I have a buddy with a degree in computer sciences. Exactly what it is, I don't know. I do know he has $60,K in student loans and worked in his field for 16 years. Until 3 years ago when his company was outsourced.. He has been trying to find ANY job for the last 2 years. Was only trying in his field for the first year.. He has lost his house and his family is split up. He has nothing but an old computer that I gave him. He does have a cell phone, but only because his daughter has a health issue that sometimes causes her to need medical assistance immediately. He is willing to work for ANYTHING at this point just so that he has a chance to be hired ANYWHERE ELSE!!!! Yes, people have so many people searching for the SAME JOB that they have told him " HE HAS BEEN OUT OF THE LOOP TOO LONG!!!!!! "
I recently made a purchase at BIG LOTS. The man that sold helped me told me he works 2 jobs. Big Lots is doing exactly what Walmart is doing with ONLY HIRING PART TIME.. So this 40 something man with a family has 2 part time jobs. His wife has 1 part time job and their 16 year old daughter works at McDonalds PART TIME... All money into the pot to keep what they already had... NO VACATION. NO HEALTHCARE. NO TIME WITH FAMILY.
I do not know where you that don't understand this live, but many of us DO NOT.. And to move costs money. Selling a house here is a losing battle..
So tell me what you expect these people to do...
Another friend has owned and operated his own transmission shop in Sarasota, Fl. for over 40 years. He tells me he can't retire as he has fought to keep his place for the last 9-10 years. He's too old for anyone else to hire him.. And he says he knows of three other tranny shops around him that have closed up losing everything... This guy has worked 6 days a week most of his life. Yes he owns his house and his tools. But his rent has gone way up since the mid 2000s and is not coming down.   What should he do?????
I love that many of you have great jobs and are completely secure. I can tell you that you are dwindling in numbers..
To 68X426,
How do you know what these people are wearing?? How do you know if they have anything THEY were able to buy??  When was the last time you saw a raggedy looking person get hired for ANY job???
What makes you think that these people have ANYTHING?? You think they have BENEFITS????????  Are you crazy??????  I cannot even immmmmmagine where you get the idea that these people are living large on nothing???
Did you really say STARBUCKS??????? OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:
chargerboy69,,,, Go back and read what I just wrote about my friend with a DEGREE...
If you think you are alone with working hard you are nuts.. I don't know anyone that has not busted their guts to own a home and pay their bills.. The fact is the wages paid all over this country are lousy. No, I am not talking about the nice cushy jobs with the corner office and a free membership to the country club. I am talking about the people that actually DO THE WORK. Handle the loads.
You know, I was one of those people that busted my ass to get ahead. I literally and physically busted my back to get ahead... I got out of that a great education and a BUSTED BACK....
