Howdy all, car has been sitting awhile(12yrs) but has been started and ran (not run) periodically, trans worked perfectly when stored,so no internal probs .... I'm pretty sure the front seal just "dried up"... can I get away with just replacing the front/rear seal or is there other hidden issues from letting a trans sit for so long?? Thanks

My  :Twocents: is if it was mine I would drive it some to see how the shifting behaves.  If that seems to be ok and it still leaks beyond a few drips than  a front seal should do it. But the trans is out to do this anyway and at that point it may be worth it for your piece of mind to have an overhaul/check done.
Also a fluid and filter change is in order anyway so don't forget to drain the torque converter.

I would also replace fluid/filter. Should be ok.

I have to agree, drive it so you know exactly how the trans behaves before you do any work to it.  Once all checks out, except for the leak, swap the seal, fluid and filter and give it a good general overhaul.  Once setup you won't be able to hurt it, dang bulletproof trans if you ask me!
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

If you want to avoid pulling the trans to replace the front seal, try an additive like Trans-X or Lucas. They do work on seal leaks.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks guys, the car is located in WA. i'm here in SF.CA. I was gonna trailer it back down here but I really want to drive her back.... I'll just replace the seals and update my AAA coverage for unlimited towing miles, and have a nice easy cruise back home... Thanks for your replies... robert

You might take a few bottles of TF with you. :icon_smile_wink:

:icon_smile_big: LOL..... you bet'cha on that, as suggested above ,I'll have my bro try the Lucas additive and insure the trans functions properly before going into the shop for the seal change, and we'll go from there....  Thanks again Ya'll     Robert
