I painted some brackets today.

Bumper, bumper brackets, bumper guards and license plate light have been assembled.

I always paint the backside of my bumpers to prevent future rust.

I put the new back up lights in today.

I hated the wire just running through a hole in the valance,

So I installed these rubber grommets from the local Rural King.

I needed to temporarily install my bumper so that I could determine the exact placement of my bumper guards.  

Realizing that attempting to do this by myself would result in scratched paint, flying wrenches and more than a few new curse words being brought into existence, I decided to rig something up.  

My El Cheapo Harbor Freight transmission jack, several yards of blue tape, some scrap lumber and a few nuts and bolts did the trick.

I was thinking that, I used the AMD bumper on my Daytona and was pleased with it, it will pass for an OEM bumper, it's not show chrome, but more in line with OEM production chrome, how did you find the bumperette fit? I know Panhead/ Curt had a minor issue with the fit, I didn't have any issues with mine though

My bumper is going on 14 years old and no issues with the chrome and no rust, and I do drive my car rain or shine...

I was thinking that, I used the AMD bumper on my Daytona and was pleased with it, it will pass for an OEM bumper, it's not show chrome, but more in line with OEM production chrome, how did you find the bumperette fit? The bumper guards fit the bumper just fine.

I'm having some issues with the lower mounting brackets on the bumper guards hitting my shiny, B5 blue valance.

Could be the guard's bracket ?

Bumper too high on the body ?

Could be the taiwanese valance I got from Harden's muscle car world back in the '90's ?

Could be I'm an idiot   ?

If I can force myself to go out to the garage today, I'll try to figure it out.

I tried balancing the bumper on my knees while sitting on a chair and slowly rolling forward,  Then I realized I would have to hold that pose while reaching in the trunk and getting the washers on the bolts and getting my nuts started.

Way too much going on at once, and paint repairs/touch ups are 1800 miles away in Arizona

So, the bumper guards won't fit.  

The back up lights had to be reshaped to fit the valance, too.  

This tells me that the valance I got from Harden's back in the 90's is probably shaped wrong.  

The only way I can see to make the bumper guards fit without destroying the paint on the rear valance, is to cut the lower brackets off, reshape/ reposition them and reweld them, which means they will need to be rechromed.  

So, for now anyway...

I've chosen the bumper guard delete option:
