gang,
I can't find this answered anywhere.  Will a 295/50 R15 Mickey Thompson Sportsman fit a 68 charger when mounted on a 15x8" rim with a 4.00 BS (-12 offset)?  I'm worried about hitting my fender.

Thanks!

if you trim the outer lip a little it should fit.i have 15x10  5in back spacing with 295-50 & have room

I have 15x10 with 5" backspace, so I think the 4" you are looking at could be an issue, but, you also are putting a 295 on an 8" rim, so you are going to suck the sidewalls in a bit. You might also have to run that set up at 25-28 psi to get a full footprint from the tire. Personally, I'd try to go at least  4.5 backspace to eliminate any potential for clipping the lip.

CDR what your tire size?  I plan to run 295/40/20 on mine rims with zero offset and 5.5 backspace....hopefully she fit.

What about a 275/65/15 with this same rim?

Too tall for the look I'm going for.  I'm going to play it safe and find a 4.5 backspace 8" rim.  The only problem is that I can't find a straight-spoke torque thrust with a 4.5 backspace.  All I can find is Torque Thrust D or the Torque Thurst II which have a rounded "D" and curved spoke.  The NVT70R American is an awesome wheel but why the hell don't they make it in a zero offset?????    :brickwall: :brickwall:

Or I can go with a 255/60 R15 Tire which has some decent width with this wheel.    :shruggy:

Yea, but will that tire size work with that rim? I understand that's not the look your going for. :2thumbs:

I have, and the Rocket strike may be the wheel I go with.  IMO, E-T wants too much for their five spoke wheel.  Another alternative is Vintage Wheel Inc.

I have 15x8.5 with a 4" bs and run 275/60/15 (28"tall) they clear about a finger to the outer lip. I don't see 295 fitting

Dino

275 fits with 4 bs, 295 does not BUT not all 295's are created equal either so you need to find out exactly how wide the tire is.  I don't think it would take all that much work to fit a 295 with that bs but 4.5 will be a direct fit.  Question is:  how close would you like the tire to sit to the fender lip?  Imo the closer the better.

I ended up ordering 15x10s with a 5.5 backspace to play it safe.  Now my sidewalls will look the same.  Costing quite a bit more but I think I'll be happier.

That'll be a direct fit with room to spare on either end, I think you'll be very happy.

It doesn't appear so, based on this calculator. http://vexer.com/68rt/old_outdated_badly_coded_old_old_old_wheelguide.html

Experiment with it to see what answer you get.

UGH, my new wheel/tire 'combo is too far inboard... :eek2:

Dino

According to that software, my tires hit the quarter lip and have a lot of space towards the inside.  It's the opposite in real life though, it hits the inside and has room to spare on the outside.

It all depends on the brand of wheel and tire.

I'm very happy with it but it does rub ever so slightly on the inside.  Check my 'Before I start' thread for the pics.  If I can move them out about 1/2" then they'll be prefect.  Maybe swapping the rear drums for discs can give me the option to bring them out a bit.

Still, it's nitpicking, I do love how these wheels look on my old beater.

Hate to recommend it but some 3/8" spacers would probably fix it

Are spacers a bad thing?  Would spacers require longer wheel studs? Dino, would you ever consider spacers?

I'm not sure I want to go that route but then again, the only spacers I've seen are those cheap things at the local auto stores.  I'm sure there's better stuff out there yet few people think it would be a good idea.

I would definitely need longer wheel studs, there's no way you can decrease them by 1/2" and still have enough thread left.

The spacers at the auto parts store are not a bad thing as long as they are not too thick.  But yes, longer studs are required but they're easy to replace.

I was assuming the spacers would have studs on them but are you saying I can replace the studs in my drums with longer ones or is it time for me to take a nap?   :icon_smile_big:

They are separate things.  Something like this this.

http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Lugnut-C7102-5-Hole-Spacer/dp/B000CIPU6O

Remember, unless you have already long wheel studs, you need to get longer ones.  Easy to do, hammer out then pull the new one in by torquing on a nut with some washers.  See youtube.

Ok, those are the types of spacers I see in the stores.  I installed RH thread studs in the ds rear drum this spring when I installed the new wheels.  I still had the stock LH studs.  I made sure the holes were clean and I did pull the new studs in by the method you describe.  I've never seen the longer ones, what's a good place to get them?

Try Summit, Jegs.  ARP probably makes them.  I don't remember what the knurl diameter is though.

I still have the packaging for the ones I installed so I'll know when I get home.

Thanks Cougs!   :2thumbs:
