Could one build a complete car only using Repop parts?

  I am amazed at how many parts are now made for are cars!  New frames, door, roofs, hoods, inner fenders and the list goes on and on.

If someone just had crazy money, could they build a 68-70 Mopar B body with out buying a old B Body car or original parts to start with?

I can see it now, a new 69 Charger Daytona Clone in a box, only $950,000.00!

I think all but the inner structure of the roof/rear window frame,inner part where the back door panels go on and a pillars is available from amd.

i doubt it would be stock style, anyone who goes an all-new route would likely be building some sort of pro-touring car or a racecar, otherwise just find a real car and restore it

They make enough new sheetmetal pieces that you could start with very little of the original car.  A few hundred bucks worth of roof/cabin framework, not much else.  There's still a ton of the entire car that isn't reproduced but the sheetmetal has gotten very well covered lately.  


Starting with more of an original car is still far cheaper than hand-building a whole new unibody out of the entire AMD catalog.  

Repro unibodies didn't put an end to restoring old bodies for the Camaro/Mustang set.  Not even for relatively expensive projects.  Those new unibodies are just another (very big) part in the catalog.  A particular builder may or many not decide they need it.

You can build a Challenger, but that's about it.  Even seat frames are made for them, so I believe a person could build a complete car out of nothing but repopped parts.

Brand new 1968 mustang and 1970 Challenger sold for around $4k....RUNNING..and with a clear title....
Today only a shell is being offered for four times as much......


Is inflation that bad? Really? Or is it that pesky middle man again? Wonder if a rust free original, hell make it an R/T shell was up on Ebay, I wonder how many "I don't think so" /"That dudes smokin crack" threads there would be??

i still blame Barrett Jackson for F***ING UP classic car/ muscle car/ mopar prices and making most think thier car in the back yard is worth what they sold the one on tv sell for...  God Damn You Rich Bastards, you screwed it up for the common man that strives to afford an care for a classic car...

no kidding, i was just talking to some guys who are into japanese sports cars, and when you compare the prices you start to understand why so many go that route i just helpped build a turbocharged toyota enngine with my cousin, the engine with 437hp cost 1500$ the transmission was 400$ and the rust free car he put it in was 800$ so for the price of a rotted out charger shell he has a car.... not a very cool car, but you get the point

I believe the market for our cars was pretty low at some point as well.  Just be patient, those tuner cars will go up in value as well.  I doubt that there will be as many as high as our cars are now, but there will be some.  It will depend on how many 10 year olds now are obsessed with F&F that will determine their market in the future.  Of course, they'll also be watching the Charger, so that should keep our market pretty high as well.

Barrett-Jackson didn't overhype the prices of every F-150, Ram, Accord, and Camry in North America.  The US dollar has inflated like hell in the last 15-20 years, that's the biggest issue.  Old Chargers cost $30,000+ because modern sedans & pickup trucks also cost $30,000+.

Everyone wants a 1969 Dodge.  Who wants a '49, '59, '79, '89, or '99 Dodge?  We have about 50 years of car guys all bidding on the same 5 years worth of cars.  And the primary generation is the largest & wealthiest generation in the land, which is also reaching the age of largest disposable income lately.  That stuff has just a little bit to do with it too.    

The population has also pretty much doubled since these cars were produced.  That doesn't help either.  

Throw in an economic bubble in the mid-2000s, with people getting cash back for refi-ing their houses, and some extra tax checks in the spring . . .  these cars would have been overinflated by the mid-2000s even if there had been a TV auction show misrepresenting them too cheaply.
