do you have freedom of information acts /laws in the US/Canada  ? over here if the local council gets a complaint and come knocking they have to tell you who made the complaint if you go to chambers and fill out "freedom of information " form normally takes about a week (enough time to have calmed down)

i'll have to check into that (i knew i shouldnt have skipped highschool law class) but from just asking verbally i was told it was confidential  :shruggy: i guess they dont want me to set his house on fire or something  :scratchchin:

Around here,

You don't have to be reported by a neighbor.

They have the "Code enforcement officer" whose job it is to drive around all day,

up and down the alleys, taking pictures and reporting everything he sees to his

bosses.

Grass too tall,

Garbage in the yard,

Cars in the yard, etc.

So...

I moved out of that town and took my tax money with me.

Put a big sign in your front yard:

If I am forced to give up my cars because of anonymous complaints, then I might just paint the front of my house the loudest ugliest shade of purple I can find.  I might start letting my lawn grow 6 inches between every mowing.  I might put pink flamigos in the front yard.  Etc.

If you have a reasonable request in regards to my cars, tell me in person or a signed letter and I will try to accommodate.

greenpigs

OP, do you HAVE to open the garage door when you work on the cars?

I don't think you should have to hide to work on your cars, but if it keeps the heat off I would try that.

Or....sell the vette and use the money for a house\rental out in the sticks.

I don't see how you're getting into trouble if the cars are staying inside the garage, door open or not. That is what you're telling us, right? That all you do is open the door when you work on them? They're not out on the driveway or street for days at a time?

my first complaint was for having the charger on my driveway for about a month, it was covered though, 2nd complaint which was about 3 weeks ago was mainly about having the vette on the driveway for like 12 hours but it was covered too apparently you arent supposed to cover up cars with expired plates (or no plates) at least thats what the officer told me, but he never said what the actual complaint was :shruggy:

Had this same thing happen to me when I Lived in the city.  you can find out VERY easily who reported you. All that is needed is an outside party. Someone they do not know knows you. As soon as you find out, make that do gooder mutha's life a living hell.
People like this seem to have an over abundance of flattened tires, egg'd houses, broken windows, dead pets, etc. Just watch for cameras. It's usually the guy with all the Video equipment as it's needed to protect his stuff. People WILL get you if you infringe where you aren't wanted/needed. So I find these types have ALOT of video cameras.

Come to find out, it was the guy down the street who used to come up and BS with me while he watched me work on the car!?! (Jealous I guess?)
Couldn't believe it. The whole time he was doing recon. I wondered why he would look around inside like he was looking for something, but figured he just didn't know much bout cars and was curious. WATCH who walks by in the street. Also, take notice of who comes by and "Hangs out" while you are working.
Once you have him/her's number, use your head and pay them back in the same sneaky, BS, underhanded manner they did you.

God i love the way you think!  :2thumbs:

need to try this  :scratchchin:

Hmmm the only strange behavior i can think of is dude down the street with a subaru wrx he always takes the long way home by passing by my house when can go just straight home.

I think you may have shot yourself in the foot on this one
Just following some of the things you have said and done with car stuff on your street did not really help
The fact that there are other cars that are as guilty as you and they have had no trouble says something

What ever you do remember that this is your parents place and they have to live there too
Hopefully someday you will get your own place with a nice big yard and shop to play in

When we do not see much happening with the Charger in your thread does that mean you are working on the Vette ???
With space being a problem I think I would find storage for one car someplace else (or just sell the Vette :))

nah only thing i did to the vette was mount the rear bumper, currently in florida spending time with family etc. would love to be home working on the charger, found a bunch of parts for it while im here, but damn it im suffering from withdrawal  :brickwall: if i dont weld something to something else soon i think im going lose what little sanity i had from the beginning  :smilie_help:
and yeah i may have to sell the vette unfortunately, i just cant think of anyone who would want one as a project  :scratchchin:

where I live they post daily police reports. where the police have responded. I and others in the neighborhood parked campers in an unfinished street. one neighbor complained about it. I'm not going to get into what he was doing wrong with his boat trailer, but what I did was looked it up on the net and saw what day and what address and what time the police responded to the complaint.  while you are plotting your revenge, sell your cars to a buddy to make it legal and find some place to put them till you can figure out what you are going to do.    my 2 cents

Being serious for a moment,

IMHO some simple steps can go a long way towards neighborhood peace.  Don't leave cars out & apart overnight or when you are gone from sunrise to sunset.   Keep them behind a garage door.  If they cannot be out of sight then keep them with the hood shut, under a cover, sitting on 4 fully inflated tires, etc.  The closer it looks to running the better off you will be.

Remember that most people aren't car guys.  Show a primered low-rust '69 R/T to most people, and they don't see much difference from a raggedy bondo-buggy '79 Chevy Nova.  They just see a decades-old car in primer.

i know what you mean, but they're are also people who look at a 1000 point hemi car and think "old jalopy" i know, its shocking. after thinking about it, i think i know who may be reporting it and theres no helping it, after talking to "his" neighbour i found out the dude with the subabru wrx hates musclecars with a passion, taking that into consideration, and the fact he often drives by my house and going out of his way to do so, i really dont think anything will change his opinion about my cars, ill just have to get them legal.... and make them far, far faster and louder than his car  :punkrocka:

Or......
You can do like a friend did and stick some weed in his ride and call the cops about a drug dealer in the hood.
Therr's a million different ways to pay back douches like this.

Of course, you look for cameras and do not get caught.lol.

I've been down this same route dealing with complaints from nosy a-holes who have nothing better to do when I had lived in a densely populated suburb. The favorite past time of these a-holes, was edging their lawn & trying to make it greener than green & hoping to get it on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens. At least 3 or 4 different occasions I received a letter from the town about a car, but only once was the complaint legit when I parted a car & let it sit as a shell for a few weeks in the driveway.

Live & learn.

What I mean is, research the law to find out EXACTLY what it is that you're allowed, or not allowed to do in your area, neighborhood, or zoning. Don't just ask your cousin's uncle's best friend's sister, who once made a photo copy at the building department & overheard the code enforcement officer order lunch. You need to know the law before you say or do something stupid & make it worse for yourself. Once you piss off someone that works in the town, they will go out of their way to make things more miserable. That's the way politics & people are so get used to it.

It may only take a simple act to bring the cars within the law so the complaint becomes invalid. If what you say is true about the officer who showed up to serve you the summons, that he didn't like doing it, then if you abide by the law he won't show up & will tell the person complaining that there is no code violation. The town I had lived in had a simple law at the time regarding unregistered vehicles being kept on the property. You couldn't, but it didn't cover repairing them. Instead of looking for a new place to store my car & then pay to move it & rent, I did the cheaper thing & registered the vehicle with cheap collector's insurance.

If you decide to stand your ground & be stubborn, even if you're right, then expect things to remain the same & have fun dealing with the aggravation & stress.

My town is very strict about this. I have the freedom to move if it bothers me. So, I store cars in storage units. Around here a car sized unit runs about $80 a month. They give price breaks on multiple units.

myk

Wow, $80?  I wish I had that available to me here in SD...

Baldwinvette77

yeah, i think its best to just ignore him after all, unfortunately a neighbour totaled his car, and has to use a suv stored in his garage, he offered me to store a car in there, so.. yeah, the saga continues  :rotz:

I wouldn't want to live in a town populated by, or especially, governed by, busybodies.
