I always thought it was strange to have the gas tank vent  INSIDE the frame rail.  Is there a reason for this other than convenience?   Seams it would be better to vent directly to the ground?? :shruggy:

Venting inside an enclosed structure protects the tube from dirt and debris....the last thing you want (or need) is a clogged vent.  ;)

OK, that is a least one reason. Does anybody know if all cars have such a vent or just the ones with a long fill tube like ours?  Never noticed. :shruggy:
