Urgent help please. Windscreen fitting tomorrow. Need molding clip locations!

Hi guys. As stated elsewhere, my car has no lower front windscreen molding, and apparently no clips for said molding either. Can anyone supply diagram of clip placement, which size clips go where, and what size holes to drill for the screws (I have correct ones with seals and new clips) for the lower clips. The lower ones are my main concern (but would like to make sure all are correct) as I have the other three side moldings fitted at the moment.

Thanks guys, sorry for the rush!

A picture from my old 69 Charger
You can see where the clips go as they are recessed in a little (no clips on in picture)
Does your car not have the recesses ?

Thank you thank you! Are all those lighter areas on the vertical face of the recess where the clips should be?

I just went out to the garage and checked my 70 (I do not have the chrome on yet)
There are 10 clips that go on the bottom section

K9COP

Awesome, thank you. Last question please, which of the various clips go along the bottom? They're different sizes in the pack:

I'm guessing the bigger ones, as there's 10 of them. And they go in with the 'ridge' of the pressing against the body to grip the molding, yes?

Thanks again. They just called and said they'd be here at one o'clock.

Yes the bigger ones go across the bottom and the ridge on the clip goes beside the paint on the car for the chrome to clip on to

"Safelite repair, Safelite replace!".... Can't fit a windscreen to a 'kin '69 though.

1 windscreen, 1 gasket, 2 guys, 4 hours, big hole still in front of car.  :flame:

FFS. Why can't anything just go as planned?

On the upside, I did manage to replace all the clips, and establish the the lower edge had the wrong (shorter) clips, explaining why it had no lower molding fitted....

Round two on Thursday.. ding ding!

What did they do, get the wrong glass or the wrong gasket?  I thought these were a walk in the park. :popcrn:  All the ones I've seen done, or help put in, only took about an hour, including cleaning the dash.

K9COP

I'm not really sure. The glass seemed to measure the same, the gasket looked the same. One thing they did do is chip the paint on the 'A' pillars next to the existing clips - thanks very much...

The young lad just couldn't get it to fit....

This just gets better and better.

Attempt 2. - No show.

Attempt 3. - Windscreen fitted, gasket fitted, right up to the very last moment when, against his own advice, fitter levered on corner of glass with metal hook. CRACK!!!

Attempt 4. - Speedy the late windshield fitter. No wait. NO SHOW AGAIN!.

Attempt 5 . - Finally get windshield 'installed' by the most accelerated, talking-to-self windscreen fitter I've ever met. he sniffed a lot....  Worked quick for sure, left sealer everywhere. Damaged gasket, and again damaged more paint in the lower corner while rearranging the gasket. FFS.

Now in personal contact with the General manager, and it looks like they are going to have to paint the top half of my car (black with a variable blue pearl - can't be 'patched' painted), replace the chrome, replace the gasket, replace the glass.

I think all the guys were well intentioned, but just out of their depth.

Watch this space.... Can you fit a picture of a windscreen fitter on the back of a milk carton?

I think next time I'd be looking for a different glass installer.  Sorry this had to happen to you :pity:

Pity indeed. The GM said, "We'll have all the paintwork on your car repaired, then I'll send the guys out to fit the new window and gasket I just ordered." To which my reply was, "I don't think so, what needs to happen is you come and get your window and gasket, then you'll have my paint work repaired by a shop I choose, then you'll send a cheque to the company I choose to have instal the new gasket and window they've ordered." They're all good guys at this company but I just want my car back and unmolested.

Sounds like you have been having fun

Why not just give it a try yourself (could not go any worse than you have had so far)

I did my own
Was a little frustrating at times but I got it done (yes I did split the gasket lip in one spot but it was up near the top so I hope it does not leak)

Just take your time and do it someplace warm or sunny day to keep the gasket as soft as you can to make it easier to work with

I hear ya, but then I'd be responsible for any damage, not a position I want to be in. The manager seems like a stand up guy, I'm sure we'll get there in the end.

Latest is that Safelite have agreed to have the entire upper half of the car painted (nose to tail), and have another company supply and fit a new windshield and gasket.
