Tach Brands you guys use

I am thinking of getting the remanufactured stock tach from charger specialies, but it is so expensive I might go with an aftermarket tach.  Just curious what brands you have had good luck with, and what you use.  I will probably install it into my cluster so a 3 3/4 size is what i'll need right?

hmmmm    I've used Autometer - they are pretty decent
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

Autometer is good except I have bought one of their cheapest tachs in the past, the kind that has the looped wire in the back that you cut for 4 or 6 cylinders. Apparently one of those wires came loose inside and was set for 6 cyl., they make them to where you can't open them up for repairs so it was basically junk unless I had a 6 cyl. to put it in. I have used their better quality one's like Phantom and Ultra-Lite with good results (they have a switch in the back for 4, 6, or 8 cyl.). If you want to mount it in your cluster, you will probably have to modify the bezel on the tach to get it to fit right.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

i don't think a muscle car is complete till there's a aftermarket tach stickin out like God intended... I use a small autometer strapped to the steering colum with a big hose clamp, it leans slightly to the right filling the blank spot on the 2nd gen dash facia just perfect.

Just 6T9 CHGR

Back in the day, before the "correct" bug bit me, I had an AutoMeter tach in my dash opening.....you might be able to see it here

I like Autometer.  I had a Sun Super Tach many years ago that worked well too.

Just a simple Autometer tach... Then again it remains to hear what the car inspection office has to say about mounting it on the dash like that.

I'm not sure what brand this tach is, but mine's mounted the same way.  What's the "correct" size hose clamp, and which way should it face so I don't lose points?   :icon_smile_big:

My dash fascia is out right now, but if it was there, the spot between the wiper switch and the speedo is blank, though it looks like there's another slot for a switch in the instrument cluster itself.  Is that for some options I don't have on my car?

I have the cheap Autoguage (made by autometer) tach w/ a shiftlight on the steering column w/ a hose clamp. It works great but its pretty big.

are you intending to race or do you just want to be able to keep an eye on the RPM's?
i have a super sun II mini mounted to the a pillar and it looks like it was made for it, you just have to flatten the mount that comes with the tac i will try and get you a pic in a day or two if you would like to see it.

well not going to do any serious racing, but the tach I have is inconsistent, and I just want a decent one.

i have used super sun for quite a while with no problems.  it has a 4, 6, or 8 cyl. switch on the back and an adjustable red line on the face. no shift light or any of that jazz.  but you can get them in black or chrome case for around 30 to 40 dollars at most parts stores.
