I've done 4 Power Tours, half way.  Can't take the whole week off with lack of vaca time.

Always a good time.  Since it ends in WI, I'll probably jump into it Wednesday wherever it is. :2thumbs:

Might possibly go. I've done two partials (2005, 2012) and two Long Hauls (2007, 2010). Kind of waiting to see what the stops are this next year, but the start and finish points are geographically favorable to me Long Hauling. Work, finances and family obligations will likely interfere though.

Hey Ron, first off the HRPT is a blast!  Been hooked on it since I did my first one in 2009 with my daily driver.

A lot depending on where you are and how much you drive.  I usually do 4 days, which has been equating to 1,500 - 1,750 miles.  You can do the math on gas mileage at that point.  I've been doing the tour with a group of guys I know and haven't officially been a part of the Mopower Tour yet.  Next year I plan on doing at least a full day with the group - if they let me.. :slap:.

Make hotel reservations early, and you can get a room close to the venue each day.  Since I go with a set larger group, we wind up sharing a room to help with expenses.  I haven't paid more than $50 a night.

Hope this helps.  All I can say, it's a blast!  Like most car activities, you meet a lot of great people.  On this event, it winds up great people from around the world....!!

I've been wanting to do the power tour for a few years now. But starting in California and making it back at 9 mpg will be a lot of gas. Soon as my car has an overdrive gear (which hopefully will be soon) i'm in. I will be there, either in 2014 or 2015.

Would be sweet to go coast to coast in the charger.  :coolgleamA:

Any waivers you need to sign to run the power tour ?   Are we allowed sponser adverts on our cars

Any detailed info on signing up would be helpful

Well the MoPowered Tour is put on by Mopar Collectors Guide.  So no other magazines other then Hot Rod can really be on the car persay.

You just need to email me at the email below to get the MoPowered Tour Emails

Other than tools and personal baggage........LOL.........what else do we need to toss in the trunk ?     Lawn chairs ? Generally is there an event to stop at every day of the tour ?   I know it's different every year but Whats the average min and max mileage per day .

Ron, yes a lawn chair is recommended!  In terms of stops, the Mopower Tour has done a great job in planning as much events as possible depending on what is in the area.  Hot Rod themselves, usually plan some stops depending again on the area.  The Hot Rod stops tends to be host lunch locations.

Miles vary from city to city.   The shortest trip I have been a part of was 100+ miles, and the furthest is 350+, again depending on the stops.  The 350 ones are very long.  The group I roll with leave early in the morning on the high mile days so we can get to the venue and enjoy it.    It tends to be up to 8 hours for the longer days.

Hope this helps.

:2thumbs: yep kind of costly, starting out west especially here in NorCal, extra time & expenses... I went on the very 1st power tour, LA to Norwalk or Chicago "Route 66" way too many years ago {1995 I think}, seems like forever now, for a good part of it anyway, then had to leave to come back for work, could only spend 7 days total including the 1500+miles driving back home... I had to pay the bills, run the company, others depended on me, spent $10k then... I will do it again too, some day I hope, when I can find the extra time & extra money, to spend over at-least 2 weeks minimum on the road, extra parts, cost of fuel, staying in motels, eating out everyday in restaurants breakfast, lunch & dinner for 3, etc. driving all the way back from NC .... It really starts to add up, for me & the girlfriend, probably bring old Pops again too {& maybe the dog this time & the RV following us}, or if it ever comes all the way back out west again, I'll be there for sure...  :slap: Good luck to all that are going... I had a blast when I went, such a long time ago now... I wish you all a great & safe trip with no break downs...LOL...

That's what I'm doing next month.  And EPIC Road Trip.  Route 66 to LA, LA up the PCH to San Fran, San Fran to Chicago by the Lincoln Highway.

I try to plan a "Mopar" event every day, but depends on the way we go!

Small update,

I started a website so you can get up to date information on the MoPowered Tour, if you are not already on the email list.

I live in Chicago.  So I'm not that far from ya.  Can't wait to meet you on the route.

It will never go to the west coast.

I did they 2013 Long Haul in my 68 from Norcal.  I also did the Long Haul in 2000 in my GTX Ca to PanamaCity Fla.  I'm hoping the 2015 comes out here from Wisconsin.  Might do part of it.  Never have driven in the Rockies.

That's an awesome trip you went on.  And it's great that you participated.  Unfortunately the actual Power Tour will never go to the West Coast.

I hope to see you on this one.  We're working on some cool stuff still!

I did two legs of the tour in 07 or 08 when I lived in Indiana. It was a blast. Just hard to get the time to dedicate 10 or more days, getting there from here, do the tour, and back home again, all at 10 MPG and close to $4/gal. Maybe someday.

A buddy of mine did a bunch of them and just based on his stories, I'd love to give it a go someday but I don't think it wil be this year.

You really should, it is a blast.

Also if anyone has any ideas for cool places along the route, let me know!

Out if pure curiosity.... Why won't it ever come to the west coast?

The population density within range of a days journey, cities that can handle the influx of participants, difficulty of some cars to go over the Rockies.

TUFCAT

That all makes sense. Thanks for answering.

The 1st one started out in LA did allot of Route 66, to Chicago... Nowhere near the cars they have today... I didn't or couldn't finish the Power Tour trip, unfortunately I had to leave early, had work issues, that I had to attend to & I haven't been since... Now it seems it's too much time, $$$ & hassle to go all the way back east/mid-west "exclusively" for mainly a big show & a long cruise... I highly doubt they will ever be back here again either, basically the East Coast/Mid West guys deal now... To me it kind of sucks for us that have to drive 2000-3000+ extra miles & spend Thousands $$$ more in fuel, hotel & restaurant costs, have to take more time away from work/business {if you can get the extra time that is} to go if we/you live out west... We have great weather, much better than out east, it's warm & no rainy weather usually that time of year either, plenty of populous & plenty of great site, ocean, mountains, lakes, picnic areas, rest stops, back roads, main HWY's, race tracks, parts suppliers, places to meet up etc. & plenty places to see out here {that shouldn't be an excuse IMHFO}... It's a shame, but it's basically a East Coast & Midwest deal now... They did do the Texas route recently thou, not really west coast... Oh well such is life, much more important issues to worry about... I'd still like to see it come back west thou, it was fun...  :Twocents:

Definitely not going to make this next one.  I'm hoping they might come out west from Wisconsin since it's one of the few states I haven't driven through.  It was a lot more fun in 2000 before all the late model muscle cars.  To me that's just not a long haul in a new car.

jwilk01

We will be on the tour from Nashville to Norwalk. We will be in a 88 Shelby csx-t, 89 Shelby csx vnt, and a 90 shadow 4dr es turbo.  I'm sure you won't be able to miss us!  Lol

TheAutoArchaeologist

I really like those Shelby CSX's.

Here's hoping they go west.  Maybe into Minnesota again, then shoot south.  We shall see.

There has been a few updates since this post.   Take a look at the website for everything.

I've gone on about 7-8 long hauls, and 3-4 partial tours. Longest was from MN (where I live) to start in San Bernadino, CA, then to Panama Beach, FL. Of course then back home. I think with side trips was like 7,000 miles? Sore but after that one. I haven't been able to go the last 2 years, but plan to meet up in Crown Point and do the last IA and WI stops too. Fun time.
