different carb, new timming ?

Is normal or at least common that a new carb ( no matter if same kind or different kind than the one was before ) will need a different timming ?

no but I stll set timing by ear to what each engine wants no matter what any given book suggests for timing

what is the reason timimg would it need to be different than book suggest ? I know maybe worn lobes for example, and stretched timing chain and sprockets...I'm using same stock camshaft, used but practically new, and chain/sprockets are new...

often the stock settings were more for emisions than performance & the engine will run better with more advance , also timing chain streach can alter the settings
