1968 dodge charger r/t 440 matching numbers restore project..?

hello.. i recently picked up a 68 charger rt.. i think its a matching numbers car it has been hit in the front end and defently needs some tlc.. i was wondering if it was worth it to buy all oem parts to restore or parts from amd..? also i was wondering how many of them were made and still around with all my options.. last time car was inspected was 1974, and speedometer reads 63,000 here is a list of my vin numbers.. pictures to come this evening.. thanks jimmy

Welcome to the site. By your numbers it is all matching.    As far as what to restore it with, it really depends upon your beliefs. All original can run into an expensive proposition. AMD makes very good sheetmetal, and there are a lot of very good reproduction parts around. As far as rarity, no one really knows as the records were burned up long ago. Being a '68 R/T it is rare enough to give it the solid rebuild it deserves. Then enjoy the hell out of it.

Amazing its still all there.

Usually, back in the day, these cars were picked over for the driveline and other useful parts right away after damage like that

That actually looks like a pretty solid project.   

I'm all for originality, but since AMD and some others are making parts that are as good as or better than the originals, I wouldn't spend the money difference looking for NOS parts, and since it's not a HEMI or a highly sought after movie car I'd go with AMD.

after sitting for forty years the motor was locked up.. 3 quarts of marvel mystery oil, 6 cans of sep 45  in the spark plug holes, 5 gallons of diesel in the valve covers , a plate to bolt on the crankshaft , 3/4 breaker bar and a week later she has unsiezed..!! and it actually turns over with the starter
