Awhile back I took my charger out on a Saturday morn for a run to get a biscuit which is about a 15 mile drive one way on a four lane. just cruising along on the way back with my food and coke a new model ford truck jumped out in front of me and I had to grab the brakes pretty hard. I was in the right lane and he jumped across into the left lane but cut me off in the process. Ok fine I thought so I kept cruising along up to the next red light which wasn't far and there were about 4 cars in the left lane stopped at the light and none in the right lane and by the time I got to it it was green so I just rolled on through. Dude in the ford jumped out of the left lane and run up on my bumper, there were cars in the left lane kinda spaced out but they were there and as soon as he got a chance he jumped back over to the left lane and flew up beside of me but there was a car close in front of him and there was some room between him and the car and me but I was just staying at my steady speed until he yanked the truck over and was close to hitting the front of my car. Cut me off big time and that was it!!! :RantExplode: I was done being a good guy at this point, tossed my food to the floor board and after I got through a small intersection and the rest of the road was clear I shoved the pistol grip up to third vanishing point style and reeled him in. I passed him about the time I pulled it into 4th gear and had to be embarrassing for him cause I went by him so easily. I'm not bragging but we all know what a good built 440 is capable of but a lot of people have no idea. I'm guessing it had a 5.4 triton V8 in it which didn't have a chance against the old mopar!!! After I basically blew by him and slowed back down he would even come up close to me no matter how slow I decided to go  :icon_smile_big: I don't go out picking races but i'm not gonna be ran down by a punk kid in a ford truck!!! :icon_smile_angry: Just wondered if you guys got any charger war stories!!!

Chargen69

in my first charger i got hit in the back by a guy reaching for his stupid phone (he admitted that).  all it did to the Charger was flat spot the bumperettes about the size of a dime.  I laughed it off and didnt call the cops because his bumper was TOAST.

Not a Charger but a Hemi RR. A big bird transam came along side me on open freeway. He nodded that he wanted to play. We started at 70mph. By 120 or so I was ahead by 5 to 10 car lengths. We came back side by side and he gave me a  :shruggy:
Those days are long passed and in traffic these days the stakes are much higher. Even when I was street racing in the seventies when there was other traffic around I was out. Times change and road rage is a killer.

My one and only Glory story would be from 2000. I had my 69 Charger RT for about a year and a guy at work (USAF) with a newer Civic was talking about his fart can muffler and NOS. We agreed to have alittle race in the industrial area after work. Once he turned right into the complex we would line up and he would signal us to launch. As he made the turn into the complex, about 5 lengths in front of me, he punched it! Wussy! I caught and passed him at about 90 and at about 125, he was now 5 lengths behind me. Unlucky for me there was an intersection approaching and the light turned yellow. I went thru a red light at over 100 MPH. I was shaking in my (combat) boots over that one. I could have killed myself or others, lesson learned, never again.  :eek2:

When I had my 68 I had a kid in some souped up pos ricer rev his engine at the light.  So I gave him the nod.

What he did not know was A: I do not condone street racing and B there was a speedtrap about 100 yards beyond the light.  I knew this because I had passed it 20 minutes before.  When the light turned we both stomped it but as soon as I went into 2nd I backed off and saw him fly by the cops who were more than happy to chase his little ass.

As much as I sometimes want to go after a car, I don't.  You never know who's in it and you have no idea what they are capable of.  I don't want to end up with a bullet hole because there's an obnoxious driver on the road, I just back off and let him go.  I can still ge tptreyy pissed though...  :RantExplode:

I think the sound of a Mopar is enough to win any battle vs a ricer.  There is no need to even race.  I don't care if you have 50k into your motor and it runs 10's... its still a honda that sounds like my weed eater at full tilt.

With that being said I can't wait till I have some glory stories to share with you guys.

Also these anxous-racer types are probably already unstable if they feel the need to act this way in the first place.
They deserve what they have...which is a ricer car that sounds like ass, so of course they need to overcompensate.
Can you imagine how they must feel next to the rumble of a 440 charger?

Most ricer owners do have some functionality left in their brain and don't even try.  Some look away, others kinda smile while they try to hold back tears and luckily many of them are way cool and give you the thumbs up.

And then there's those unstable ones.

Lately I've been seeing them in the new 'muscle' cars as well.  I had one guy with a new Charger get pissed last year because I didn't give him the thumbs up so I told them I never do if I don't think it deserves it.

For those who like or love the new Charger, this one was 'riced'.  Spoilers everywhere, I'm sure he had the barefoot gas pedal as well.

When I asked him why he never gave me the thumbs up he said he's not into GM.  I kid you not.  I wanted to laugh but there's something about the majorly stupid that makes me sad.

I still see him from time to time and he's still not getting the finger he desires.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I have a lot of stories about street racing in my Charger from long ago, but they'ed take to long to write about. Last summer I did embarrass a guy on a Harley with his woman on the back of it. However, I was driving my Challenger. The guy came up behind me reving his engine up and as soon as he tried to go around me I punched it. He didn't have a chance but didn't want to give up. I slowed down and let him catch up, punched it again and left him about a quarter mile behind me. Eventually I slowed back down to a normal speed and after a couple of minutes here he came again. I let him go past me this time and neither he or his woman would even look my direction.

I'm so looking forward to having some new story's to tell , above car still in build process
My favourite, cruising with my autistic son ,previous car 68 triple green rt  still left hand drive over here in Australia, ricers appeared and dangerously hanging around car and not concentrating on there driving, set of lights ahead went amber so took my chance and nailed it through lights , left the kids caught back at the red, still wheel spinning and rapidly accelerating , looked over because I could hear laughter, my autistic son was laughing his head off and saying more and patting his chest , which is sign for more , looked back at speedo which was rapidly approaching 100 kept it going a little while longer , hey its favourite car to cruise in, and I found out that day he's a car nut like us lol
this car has has smoked late model hsv manaro standing start with the authority's witnessing end of run, he got booked and I got them wasting time looking over my car, hey but got away with it, also blown 55 big dollar cheby, he was pissed

It was actually several years back when that happened and my charger was still a general then. I had to get away from the other cars before I made my move unlike him. There is always the chance of the cops hanging around tho but it was over pretty quick after I blew by him. Haven't done nothing like that since, I need my license!! LOL My buddy that does paint/body work had a 70 challenger, solid white just like Kowalski's. It was an automatic tho with a 500 inch stroker engine with two edelbrock carbs on top of it. It was a strong running car and we got called out by a Honda hatch of some kind with a turbo on it. I don't know Honda's but it was small and noisy. We marked off bout a 1/4 mile on the highway and went from a 20 mph roll. I was riding shot gun while my buddy drove. We smoked him by about 4 car lengths which was impressive since they had out ran a lot of the supposedly fast V8 cars in town but not the mopar guys. :icon_smile_big: Wish he still had that one but he has a solid black 68 charger now and it is a sweet ride too!!!!!

'Glory' stories? I got in my junk, it fired right up, ran halfway good the entire trip, and I made it back home. The end.

I was driving to KC Kansas on highway 70. I was doing 60 mph (limit was 55 then) and a sweet looking Emerald Green 69 Z/28 came off a entrances on to 70. He pulled up to and goosed the throttle, want to play?  :scratchchin:

He jumped first and got me by 3/4 of a car. I pulled the 69 Charger down to second and stood on it! At around 100 MPH the Z seemed to have ran out of steam?  I was packing a BB and 2:76, not a Charger to try to get into a races on the inter state!

As I rolled right on by I just looked over with a big shit eating grin! :nana: He never did try to catch up with me?  :shruggy: I wonder why?  :smilielol:

Some years ago Me and a Ferd Fairlane was at a light. I accelerated off authoritative like  :2thumbs: The Guy in the Fairlane stayed side by side with me.  :shruggy: We were doing 120 mph (atleast on my speedo) when I waved bye to him and left him.  :nana:

I think one of the more memorable things that happened to me was I was going along on a 4 lane road in town and a car pulled out in front of me. :flame: I was in the inside lane and he came out from a side road and stopped right in front of me. He couldn't get across because of the other cars going opposite direction. :hah:  I hit the brakes and jerked the wheel to the right bringing  me sideways and parallel to his car and coming to a stop instantly I mashed the gas causing the tires to smoke and bringing the rear end around in the counterclockwise direction putting me in the outside lane and around and past that numb-nut.  :yesnod:

That's about the extent of my glory stories lately!!!  :2thumbs:

These type threads I find seem to have an over-abundance of BS stories.

"The older I get, the faster I was"....

I'll begin with "I got outrun last weekend by a Honda"...(Truth)
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Fred

Here's one for you. Some months back while out cruising, I was sitting behind a line of cars not getting anywhere thanks to the driver up front. I was biding my time because I knew there was an overtaking lane coming up ahead. As soon as I reached it, I floored it and flew past the lot of them......they became a speck in my rear view mirror when out of nowhere a BMW M6 coupe shot past me on the inside lane...........whoosh!...........and was gone. Wiped the smile right off my face (but only for a second).

And that's no BS!

I had a similar experience. We drive fun cars from the past but they are no match for many that are all around us.
Back in the day they were sleepers. Today they are just fine all around cars.

Fred

But I don't care how many times I'm passed by modern technology.........I'm having way to much fun to care.   :drive:  I prefer to sit behind the wheel of my charger any day. That's why I got it.

I am with you on that. :2thumbs: I suspect many of the those that can pass us would love a chance to feel what it's like to drive one of these.  :yesnod:

Fred

Exactly. And I bet when they're parked somewhere people don't go up to the owner and ask if they can take a pic.

I've got a bunch of glory stories. When you've driven the same car 400,000 miles things happen. We use to race cross country back in the day. I was racing a 51 ford truck and a 69 Torino. It was at night and we were running about 115 mph and the Torino was right on my bumper when all of a sudden all hell breaks loose as sparks and crap start lighting up my rear view mirror. The old Torino couldn't take the stress. :shruggy: Chalk one up for the Mopar. :2thumbs:

GOTWING

When I was in high school the year was 1985 a bully with a basically stock 70 montecarlo 350 4bbl kept harrasing me to race him this went on for weeks I was not the show off type wanting to race etc.so one day after school it was on I followed him out of the school parking lot in my 73 charger to get this over with about a half of dozen other cars followed to watch we lined up on a nice two lane road just minutes from the school a buddy of mine rode with so we take off I pulled on him and beat him fair and square I did not stop to hang around I just kept going and dropped my buddy off and went home the next morning I did not see the Monte in the school parking lot well word was he actually blew the motor during the race is that really why I won ?? I never found out and didn't really care either my car was fine and his was out of the picture for several months this guy was a real jerk and he actually passed away a few years ago

Dino

It's true, there's many cars out there that can kick mine's butt, however they don't all seem to realize this because it's such an intimidating car.  One of my coworkers is always in awe when he sees me turn into the parking lot but he doesn't realize I don't have a chance against his German toy rocket.

I'll tell you what though, I can safely pass 4 cars in a row thanks to all the torque this car has and I can't do that crap in my Honda!

These cars are anything but practical as a daily commuter. If my charger got only 4mpg I would still have the fun I have with it and not gripe.
I have a driver for the daily needs as most of us do like Cooter.
Even my Challenger is not a daily driver. It is something for me to have fun with like my coronet and charger.
I feel fortunate to have these but worked for many years to get here.
BTW the challenger and coronet are 40 years apart but share many things. Dodge,425hp, manual trans, hemi. But they are two very different animals.
It's hard to say which is more fun to drive. :yesnod:

Road Dog

I hit a deer a couple weeks ago with the Challenger (bastage!) and had to drive my Charger a 1 1/2 hours a day as my daily driver. Car handles it well, but the 90+ degree heat is brutal on me. Challenger is much more user friendly with all the technology nowadays.
