Not my story, just relaying it because I guess one of the cars is going to be at the Nats!

"Alright followers and friends, we're getting ready for the wing car tribute at the Mopar Nationals, and we have a treat for you. Come by our subscription booth and check out this '69 Charger Daytona. This car was pulled from the junk yard in the early 70s, barely saved from the crusher, and has been stored out of site ever since. Tech Editor Dave Young is currently thrashing to install an engine and transmission in the car, and with a little luck it will be running and driving at the Nats. Either way, it's a cool piece of Mopar history and you'll want to check it out! There will be plenty of restored winged cars at the Nats, but we're bringing this one as is, unrestored, as pulled from the junk yard 40 years ago.

See you at the Nats!"

"It's gonna be a long weekend, but we're going to get this Daytona running and driving. Come check it out at the Nats, as pulled from the junk yard! Unrestored, wrecked, and destined for the crusher this car was barely saved with 3 cars in front of it in the crusher line. See you at the Nats."

VERY cool, those unrestored cars always get alot of attention, and they should.

is it possible that the green one started life as a C500? It has an "Airtemp" AC decal in the passenger quarter window. I suppose the other reason could be that the window was replaced at one point. I didn't think you could get AC on a 'Tona

the red one reminds me of one that was on a trailer here in another post, but I can't find the picture...was really crumpled in passenger rear quarter, and had a different color door & fender when it was on trailer

Hard to tell from those pics but it doesn't look all that bad rust wise, considering where it was sitting.

What part of the country was it in?

Now everyone can see the big picture  ;)

Cool beans though  :2thumbs:

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

71_Charger_R/T

If you look in the HUGE first picture, the two cars look to have had their right rear marker lights swapped...... The F6 car has red paint showing under the black painted bezel and the red car has F6 green showing around the inset for the reflector. I wonder whats up with that?  :shruggy:

TheAutoArchaeologist

Sorry, on my computer the picture didn't pop up that big.

And all the information I posted is what I have found.  I can ask Dave when I see him this weekend at the Nats.  But he probably won't say much since it is going to be in Mopar Muscle.

"Project Daytona update:

We fired the engine last night and finished up some loose ends, getting our junkyard Daytona ready for the Mopar Nationals! Friend Matt Koops rescued this car from 40 years of storage, after it was wrecked and then saved from the crusher.

The Daytona drove under its own power for the first time in 40 years last night, and seemed happy to be back on the road. The Daytona is now on the way to the Mopar Nationals, so come by our booth and check it out. It hasn't even been washed since being pulled from storage, and looks just like it did when it was pulled from the junk yard in '74!"

You can follow along on Mopar Muscle's Facebook page.  Tell them Ryan sent ya!

I wondered if these weren't 2 of his stash from back then. Glad to see they were saved.
