Leaf spring hanger bushings?

Sometimes when I take a turn I can feel the back end slide a bit.  Not the tires, the rear end doesn't breake out but I can feel the body sliding on the suspension.  My guess is that the leaf spring bushings are done for giving me too much lateral movement.  When I replace my front end bushings I will be using rubber to get the softer ride but for the hangers poly is recommended right?

Have you looked at your bushings?  Just sayin'..might be something else going on.  The fact that you can feel the rear moving around under the car seems to be pretty extreme for just bad bushings.  U bolts tight, springs ok, not broken, just throwing out some thoughts  :Twocents:

If it is the bushings then I saw on one of the threads to keep the front ones as rubber, rear your choice.

Yep everything else checks out fine.  It's not severe but I can feel it.  This also only hapens when I take a turn at a steady clip.  Granny driving doesn't cause the motion.

Instead of just bushings I may just get new springs as well.  It wouldn't hurt.

You are talking about some serious work.  It may be the bushings, but can you figure out how to test what is wrong??  Not trying to beat a dead horse but I like to know exactly what the problem is before swapping out parts.  Maybe get a couple of friends to shove the rear of the car back and forth while you look underneath and see what's going on??

Agreed, I want to know what's wrong before I replace anything.

I am doing tons of work to the car.  Now that it runs properly again, I can focus on other things.  I need to replace all 4 shocks, install a front disc brake kit and clean up the rear drums.  Install rear sway bar.  I'm also installing a new fuel sending unit, new lines and vapor separator.  New alternator which I don't have yet, upgrading manual windows to power, installing power door and trunk locks, alarm, remote start,...the list goes on.  Adding new springs won't make much difference.   :icon_smile_big:

I'll still check to see what the wobble is about though.

Wow, really going at it, sounds like some significant upgrades.  I'd be interested in hearing how things go.

I'll post the entire fire department report when I'm finished with the electrical.

There's more to do but apart from the exhaust that really needs some work, everything else is my choice.  Nothing wrong with my manual windows, just tired of pulling over to roll them up or down.    :yesnod:

I'll probably start a progress thread or something so others can benefit from my mistak...my work!  There...

Leaf spring bushings -

Try replacing all the rear shackle bushings with poly but using (new) rubber for the front spring eye bushings.  That will keep the bigger bump-cushioning bushing soft but stiffen up the bigger source of lateral flex.

Ah yes that's how that worked, thanks Mike!   :2thumbs:
