Backed the Charger in the garage last night as I do very day.  I park real close to the wall and don't have a passenger side mirror but as long as I know where everything is, I'm fine.  I bought a buddy seat from a member here a while ago.  I cleaned it up and put it on top of a box but I hadn't noticed it moved and was now facing the other way.  About 1 foot from the back wall I hear a squeak so I get out and see the seat is wedged between the wall and my quarter panel.  I pushed the car forward and see a nice dent right below the belt line and behind the wheel....dammit.  I opened the trunk and I can reach the dent real easy but the inside quarters still have the original undercoating and it's real thick.  The dent is also where the undercoating stops, ie where it's the thickest.  There's another dent right above the wheel from the po so I might as well leave this one in as well and deal with it when the car is being restored...likely around 2017.   :icon_smile_big:

The seat is fine though.

To my knowledge, the first dent I put in the car but not the last I'm sure.   ::)

That stinks!
Could it be a consideration for paintless dent repair?  :shruggy:

It could but it's not worth it.  If the car was mint then yes it would be the way to go.  The car was prepped and painted pretty poorly.  Strong paint to be sure because it didn't remove any, not even the shine, but did push 2 lines into the paint leading into the dent.  When you stand next to the car you'd say it's pretty straight but when you lay your head against it and use the light, you can see a few more small dings, lousy paint job and bubbling at the very bottom.  I have a hot glue gun so I probably have all I need to pull the dent out and smooth it with a nylon hammer, but not worth it likely.

It's stupid and it shouldn't have happened but whatcha gonna do?  The missing paint on the ps fender happened in a garage as well, the po's before I got it.  Funny how the car is fine on the road but can't seem to be parked without leaving a mark.

Hey rub it in why don't you!

Very true though.  That will teach me to not peak in the garage before pulling in.

Lol.  I was doing some work on my brother in laws car with changing his trans fluid and buttoned it all up and went to back the car off the ramps and heard a noise while backing up.  Well, I forgot to check under the car and I ended up dragging the trans funnel and catch pan all the way out my driveway and down the road a little.  Since then, I check all around and under any car before I take it out of the garage.

 :pullinghair: Ahhhhhhhhh!

Sorry man. That sucks. You've got a good attitude about it though.

Troy

That sucks! But, look at it this way, you could pamper the car and only get it out of the garage for cleaning and this could still happen! You know, most accidents happen within 2 miles of home because you begin to relax. You made it almost all the way... :D

And, luckily, you still haven't noticed the waves in the hood from me doing Dukes of Hazzard slides across it when it was parked in my garage! :P

Troy

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

TUFCAT

I've done it.  Reminds me of a certain dent I put in the top of a fender while working on the Coronet.  :eek2:

whats that Tuffy?  Sliding across the hood Dukes style?    :smilielol:

My OLD Pops has hit the damn rear dually fenders, when parking it, on my 2002 F350 4x4 diesel dually fenders, so many times now, I lost freaken' count... I will fix it when he quits driving, he loves driving that POS too......... Hell Chit happens, thank god my RR & Dakota is in the garage away from Old Pops ruining one of my other trucks & my car too  :slap:

Dino, Dino, Dino? What are we gonna do with you. We buy you books......send you to school AND you eat the teacher!

Well, can't be as bad as when I parked way out in a Harbor Freight parking lot (that'll be safe huh?) only to find a nice dent someone left me.

This is why Gawd invented wine. On the patio....not behind the wheel.

Sorry to hear about that Dino.  If it makes you feel any better, right after I purchased my rallye my wife and I spent most of the day cleaning the white interior.  We had removed the rear seat and for some reason I left the upper panel behind the car.  Forgetting it was still there, I got in the car and promptly ran right over the seat!  Nothing like a nice white seat flattened on one side with a big ugly tire track!  I almost Sh*t myself  :o.  Lucky for me I was able to remove all the tire marks and get it back into shape.  If you saw it today you would never had known but the image is something I won't soon forget!

I knew I should have kept that buddy seat!!!! Sorry it dented your car dude, I've done similar things to mine. I moved my charger to a different spot in the yard one day and opened the door up on a 6 ton jack stand sitting too close and got me a big scratch on my driver's door. Just wasn't paying attention!! :brickwall: I also went with a different intake manifold and without paying attention closed the hood on a air cleaner stud that was too tall cause of the new taller intake. And the hood was perfect too before that!! :-\  I can go on and on about my poor car skills and what my old car has been through.  ;D

Dino

Thanks for making me feel better guys, I needed the laugh.

Dammit Troy I told you to cut that out!  Although I must admit the hood is more shiny than the rest of the car.   :smilielol:

So new rule, LOOK into the garage before backing in.   ::)

Ouch!  Sorry to hear this Dirk!  Could have been worse, still, very frustrating.   :sorry:  Sounds like you have the right attitude though  :2thumbs:

Dino

Thanks Paul, I wonder if I will still have this attitude once it's painted and shiny...but that's years away so at least I can practice some more in the garage.

I agree. As long as the paint is not damaged (split) it would probably be an easy fix!

These cars are just so big!!! When I built my 24 x 24 shop I thought that would be plenty big enough. After I put my tool boxes and other crap along the back wall I barely have room to back the charger in and have room to walk around it. I usually park it as close to the garage door as possible so I can walk around the back of it when I back it in. I got a scotch in the floor so I know where it usually sits so I wont go back too far and hit anything. Trying to be careful as possible since I just got it painted and back together at the end of last year. Its hard to see all four corners of these old cars when your in such a small area and its easy to ding these old cars up. After having both quarter panels off my car and the trunk pan out I have the attitude now that if its a ding or dent it will be much easier to fix than panel replacement!! :icon_smile_big: You got a great attitude about it and it sound like a pretty easy fix when you get to that point!! :yesnod:

greenpigs

Well Doc, it isn't like you can't fix it.

The first scratch on your new paint  . . . heartbreaking.

The second scratch . . . liberating.

Little dings can be fixed.
Enjoy the car for what it is and don't beat yourself up over it.

At least you had an excuse. You couldn't see it unless you got out of the car. I once hopped in my Ram 2500 and promptly backed into my other Ram 2500 parked behind it.  :brickwall:
