:shruggy: I've got access to a like new cam for a small block but have no idea what it is and was wondering if maybe somebody could Id it by the numbers on it. It has CD-936 and 69-40-87 stamped in the end of it, with a yellow dot of paint and C2 D2 and 87 cast into it by the dist gear. Is ther any way to measure it to determine what it is? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds by the "CD" to be an Old "Cam Dynamics" grind ? But I thought there were usually 2 sets of 3 digit numbers on those ? and the actual part#'s were 5 digit ?
Hmmmmm ?
Forget the numbers "cast" into it...those are just cam blank numbers.

For a Ballpark.....take a Vernier Caliper and Measure the Lobes distance from "peak" to "base" circle....then subtract the base circle itself measurement... and multiply that resulting number by 1.5(Rocker ratio) for total lift.

better yet....
if you have V-Blocks and a Magnetic Base Dial Indicator.....set the Cam up in the V-Blocks, attach a Degree Wheel to the end....and start measuring the Lobe Lift above the base Circle(again X 1.5 for peak lift), and start plotting the .050" lift Duration numbers by the degree wheel.

BEST....
Call Crane Cams who I believe absorbed Cam Dynamics back in the early 90's and see if they can give you the specs from those numbers ?
