Hey gang...

I hurt my left side ribs last week playing around with some energetic high school seniors during a Geologic Field trip ( this stop was at White Sands National Monument )....... When one has bruised ribs, there's really nothing that can be done, correct? It is a case of it just healing on its own? Wrap in an ACE bandage?

you can keep icing but it will be for comfort only.  15-20 on, 45 off.  Repeat when needed.  A bag of frozen pees usually works real well on the ole ribcage.  You 'can' use an ace wrap but if it's that painful I suggest getting an otc elastic binder.  Dale is a good brand.  They are not designed to help the ribs but it sure helps!  It's nothing more than a wide elastic band with velcro on the end so you can control the compression.

Use nsaid's for pain, Tylenol is one of the better ones so no need to get the heavy stuff.

Time is the only real healing factor here so do what you need to do to stay comfy.

If breathing becomes labored, get your butt over to the ER.

To put things into perspective, My mom will be 81 next month and found out today she has 2 BROKEN ribs... How she did it I have no idea, but she says it was done when she was coughing hard a week ago.  :'(

You ain't no spring chicken!

I did something similar a while back playing around with my kids. Felt like I needed to go to the hospital afterward and they didn't feel a thing. It's a sad state of affairs.

Getting old sucks! Last month I was washing windows. climbed out of one of the up stairs windows to get on the roof to wash the outside. As I stretched my old fat ass through the window I felt a rib crack or something. It hurt for weeks.

I know how you feel talk about sore ribs my shitty run around car was rammed in the back and pushed into the car in front. This happened two weeks ago the seat belt bruised them big time. The doc told me nothing that he can do but make sure you breath deeply so you wont end up with a collapsed lung. Worst part is sleeping at nite. Doc said aprox four weeks all should be well.

Some years ago I broke my ankle playing around with the dog. The funny thing about it was that the wife was skiing in New Zealand and I had the broken leg.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.
