Just sad.  We all worry about this every day we drive these types of cars. Sad. :'(

What makes this worse is that the whole thing could've been prevented if the other driver had just done the right thing and not run a red light or possibly have been talking on their phone.

As for that Bel Air, I would guess that the car is repairable if he really wanted it that badly.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.  Then again, this is why you put your insurance policy at it's highest: every year there are an increasing number of knuckleheads getting behind the wheel, so the odds are continually growing against our automotive safety...

Lots of cars on this forum are getting more sheetmetal work than that '57 needs.

But he's a Chevy guy.  They come from a world where you can find affordable replacement cars/parts when you want them.

thedodgeboys

I think you can buy a complete body for one of them better yet a 2 door. It's got a lot of usable parts.

Chop cut rebuild just did one on tv.

One day after a new pant job sucks no matter the car

Cooter

Doesn't matter make of car, cheap or expensive parts...NOBODY deserves to have all that hard work destroyed because of someone's stupidity. I think the law should be if you hit someone else's classic car[ Being stupid, or breaking traffic laws] they should be by law, allowed at least 15 min. to destroy something that you love and care about.
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Ghoste

That's not a bad idea Cooter.

There are guys who would wanna invoke Cooter's "classic law" if somebody hit their stock 1996 sports car.

These are passenger cars and we drive them on public roads.  It sucks to hear of a case like this, but it's a risk we take.

I just try not to think too hard about it.  IMHO life has a way of gravitating towards things you spend a lot of mental energy on, regardless of whether you feel positive or negative about it.  Constantly thinking "God I hope _____ doesn't happen!". . . you might as well be praying for it to happen.

TUFCAT

It happened to me last year and I was surprisingly calm.  It was nowhere near the extent of this damage.  I don't consider myself a classy guy but I was that day!

In the end, the car gets fixed and you don't t have to eat county food or get a new roommate named Bubba... :Twocents: :Twocents:

Aero426

That car is certainly repairable.     While it's not a pleasant situation by any means, it's a whole lot better than my worst fear, which is fire.

Iceyone

I'm not sure where Thorton is, but I was expecting to read that the Chevy had been hit by some tree hugging, stoner driving a Prius. It sucks to be him but thankfully these days you can insure a classic car for an "agreed upon" price.

Now, that sucks losing a car one day after getting paint job done.  At least 4 dr 57's are still around cheap enough to fix his car if he really wants to.  It's hard to think of things like that happening, but, they do. :'(

ACUDANUT

Why put all that money into a 4 door taxi.  Either way it sucks. Sorry for his loss.

I doubt 30 years from now anyone will cry over a T-Boned 2004 Malibu.   They just don't build them like this anymore.   Sucks.

Doesn't matter the vehicle involved; everyone has their loves.  I'm sure there are people who can't figure out why we here like Chargers instead of 80's Volvo's... :shruggy:

Yeah but they obviously have no taste.
