few quick questions

1. where would I find what year my motor is? where is the block stamped?
2. how do I tell what heads my 440 has? which are good, which are bad? or don't it matter?

3. any difference between the 68,69,70 440s?

1) The block casting date will be visible on the side of the block just below the head. The machined pad in front of the intake manifold will contain stamped data including the model year, build date, HP or not and dimensional data. Some blocks also have a distinct serial number stamped in the pan rail just below the starter.

2)The raised casting number will ID the head. Except for some very early small valve heads, they aren't much different.

3) There are standard performance and high performance 440's, 4-barrel and 6-barrel, '68 and '69 440-4 are much the same but '70 had a reduced compression ratio.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Quote. how do I tell what heads my 440 has? which are good, which are bad? or don't it matter?

One notable difference/advantage is that later heads like the "346" (last three digits of casting number) heads will have factory hardened seats for unleaded gas. "906" and other heads will not have this unless they were machined into them during a rebuild. If you have unhardened valve seats and do not use a gas additive to protect them, the unleaded gas will ruin the valve seats over time. "915" heads have a smaller cumbustion chamber and are desired for certain applications.
