Hi, I have tackled everything from motors, rear gears, metal work, body work paint etc but have never torn into a mopar tranny. How difficult are they to rebuild? Any good books out there to assist? Also where is best place to buy rebuild kit? Thanks yall! Jon

Sounds like you have skills to tackle it:  http://www.transmissioncenter.net/727transmission.htm
They have the parts you need for a quality repair.
This is a good article on 727 repair  http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/torqueflite-tom-hand.html

Make sure you clean, clean, clean, and re clean, even a spec of lint can screw up the best repair.

Thank you. Yes, I have skills, just no practice on this. I am a clean freak, so no worries there.... Ha!  Even if I screw it up, I can learn from my mistakes. Thanks. Jon

That is a great attitude!

There is a book out there but I cannot recall it at the moment.  I am sure someone will chime in soon.

I hope so, I would love to get a good book on it. The way we all get good at this stuff is by screwing it up the first time.... well, not always.....

I have a Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook written by Carl H. Munroe.  I was told this was the best manual to have when rebuilding my TF 727.  Unfortunately for me I was unable to find the book (bought it two years ago) until after I finished rebuilding my transmission.  That is the book I would recommend.

Easy!!! There are so few parts in a 727 (904) you don't even really need a rebuild manual, I have rebuilt 10 727's and they have all worked perfectly fine after each rebuild!! Easiest transmission to rebuild ever!! ATSG ought to make a good rebuild manual!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Thank you, those are encouraging words! Thanks for the book name!

Carl Munroe's book is great and the ATSG manuals are OK but the best book for a first-timer is the FSM for the exact year of your trans. There are lots of little nuances from year to year that can bite you in the butt when using generic books.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

True that John!  All I had was my FSM and Youtube oh...   And your knowledge as well as others on here which was priceless in the process.

Monziac, the question I should ask... are you just 'rebuilding' or 'building' your transmission by adding a bolt-in sprag, TF-2 Transgo shift kit, new seals, bushings and the like or just pulling it apart and replacing the clutch discs?

Your plans will dictate what resource(s) you need.

Monziac

Yes, Just a standard rebuild. When i pulled the engine and tranny it slipped badly and hadn't been run in 15 years. I just want a stock rebuild kit for it. Thanks, Jon
