Ford Australia RIP?

I read in Popular Hot Rodding that Ford was closing down their manufacturing plants in Australia.  The article said like 1,200 people were losing thier jobs.  Does that mean no more Falcon? :'(  I'm wondering what cars they are bringing over there.  I know that they are in the process of thier whole global market concept, which explains all thier redesigns over here, to compete in European markets.  I'm wondering if they are going to rebadge Fusions and Taurus's to suit the Australian market. :popcrn:

On another note, Chrysler is going to enter the V8 Supercar series down there.  Not for sure what car they are using yet.  It's either a Charger or a Challenger :popcrn:

Both interesting bits of news. :scratchchin:

Done a little looking up for some more info on this.  It seems like some of the models will still be produced, just else where.  Still a sad bit of news though.

there is a plus side we've had rumours that the mustang will replace the falcon

JB400

Is this because the Falcon has gotten away from it's performance image or because the Mustang is wanted down under?

no market for the falcon and the mustang will replace the falcon based gt

Really? The rumor mill had them at it a couple of years ago then nissan, and now mercedes with the Stone Bros.
Granted, as a two horse race its nothing like it used to be.
We call it the great Taxi race, not that exciting anymore. Only went to the Hamilton 500 a few years ago to see ZZ Top play. That totally rocked. Used to go to the Pukekohe rounds about 10 years ago when Murph was on form and Jason Bright, Ambrose, Skaife, Ingall, Frosty, Perkins and young Lowndes were right up there.
Brocky would even come out for the Targa Rally then, now that was cool!.

Those were the days.
I just watch NASCAR now. Couldn't be bothered with the V8's.

I love my V8's.    Born and bred.
Bathurst is about the only race left that I'm still interested in.
Watching cars going around in circles leaves me dizzy!

Ha! That's what all of my friends say.
I love it. NASCAR, beer, and an opportunity to zone out for a few hours. I'm often here on the board simultaneously.
