Cool sleeper with a 428 HO, just curious, what does the SJ stand for or signify?  Is that a special rare model?

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

89MOPAR

Longest hood of Any American car in 69+70 !!!

I used to have a 68 GP with the 350 horse 400. Didn't feel that powerfull though.
Had hideaway lights, etc.
We called it the Grand Pig.  ;D

NYC, is that the style GP with the cool console that is angled towards the driver?  There is one up here that I think is a '71, but your style.    :icon_smile_cool:

I've owned two '78 T/A's (first one hit a pole with it) and they were a fun car.  Big block and actually handled well.  I never really understood what all the bad hype was since they were fun cars once all the smog stuff was junked.  :icon_smile_evil:

'79 Lil'Red Express.

 Great Daily NYC!.

you gonna keep it stock?..

I'd paint it black or dark blue, put a hood tach on it and fill up the wheel wells, maybe use the honeycomb wheels...

The SJ designation was because the design was supposedly inspired by the Dusenburgs of the '20s and Dusies were labeled as either SJ or SSJ, SJs being the long wheelbase and SSJ the short wheelbase, only two SSJs were built for Gary Cooper and Clark Gable... I guess if you squint your eyes and drink  alot they do look alike...  :icon_smile_wink: Anyhow i belive the '69 G.P. was a John Delorian design from his hay day.

BTW: I noticed a guy across the bay in Oakland is selling a '69 Cougar Eliminator, the ad says a perfect low Mi. 428 C.I. and the price is $17K...
I hade a girlfriend in the early '70s who had an absolutly perfect '69 XR-7 in mettalic med. blue with a white top and interior it was like a two inch longer cushy mustang, it was stolen one night and all the good parts were stripped from the car, too bad as it was a low milage original...  :rotz:

Do all mopar guys have a soft spot for ponchos? I know I do ( 65-66 grand prix - 2+2 - 66 Triple black ( post) goat - 69 Judge - 67-68 beaumont SD ) and alot of the mopar guys I know are the same. Even the hard core pontiac boys don`t mind a nice mopar.

im thinking about fiero seats for my duster. but not really thrilled about anything GM. i do like the old cougars My moms first car was a 68 XR7 GT, factory 390 3speed car(GT was very rare under 200 made i believe). wich went to my uncle after she was done with it. it was one of the first cars i ever worked on. then when i was 15 a buddy bought a 67 that we worked on alot. my best friend from school has a 67 currently..the sad thing about cougars is that they have no value. if you want a nice ford to fix up and keep buy a cougar. just never plan to get your money out of it.

Strat - cool info! thanks man.

Ok, the immediate plans as I see it now are as follows:

1. 15x7 Rally IIs w/BGFs
2. Hood Tach
3. Edelbrock IAS shock all around
4. New exhaust

Future plans
1. Pull the 428, stoke it out with a nice custom crank and make a REAL sleeper out of it.
2. New viynal top

Does anyone know where I can purchase the hood tach? I have been trying to find a place with no luck whatsoever.

Sweet ride, alot can be done with that 428, its a great motor. I just got rid of a set of 15X7 Ralley 2s. Wheel vintiques has them pretty reasonable, not sure on the quality. Im a Pontiac guy at heart. This is my 67 Lemans Ive had for 20 years. 400/muncie

I forgot to mention that's a sweet Cougar Mr. Bungle,.. but the side pipes need chroming or tipps or something, it's looking pretty industrial there....  :-\ can't ya' do sumpthin 'bout that?..

Ames has the repop hood tachs for $205. Theres an early 69 and late 69. Performance Years might have them to

No problem  Dont know if you need any other parts for now but on another forum I belong to a guy had a 69 GP in NY he was parting out, had a mint hood for free. No motor or tranny.

Cool.  I remember the GP's having big motors and big appetite.  Future sleeper plans sound just like that too, a definite snoozer.

I had me a poncho and still have a soft spot for the old TA's.  Thru high school I had a '77 TA with the 400 in it.  I used to spin the tires all the way thru the quarter mile.  Don't know why, but I thought it was cool back then.  The seats would recline all the way back, so it served it's purpose.

rare69

if you put a 68 or 69 gto with hide away head lights next to a 69 charger you will see a resemblance.

I know, but that picture was taken a few years back. This picture is more recent, so you'll see how i solved the problems of the side pipes. Over the rear axle, like it was original. Hope you'll like it even more.

mister bungle

and if someone likes to see how a 428 looks like, here is a picture of my engine bay. I hope not to start a riot on a dodge forum with a ford product, but be confident; my charger will be also this clean in the future. To me it is just about restoring American history. Ford or Dodge, it's all about the classic american cars to me...

Fords are not my # 1 choice but my brother had a 69 scj mustang a few years back and that thing was just plain nasty. The torque that thing put out was pretty incredible. With one person or four in that car it didn`t seem to matter it would still put you back into your seat!

I happen to own a 69' Cougar xr7 , Iv'e had it since highschool and used to drive my friend( which is now my wife) around till the sun came up.

I'm new here, in love with anything Charger, and first thing I do as soon as my insurance goes down is to get my hands on a 68 R/T with the Hemi.  What would I expect to pay for this beast?  And for the life of me I can't get my hands on a figure for curb weight.  Some people say 3500 lbs.  Others say 4000.  What gives?  I know the 500 was heavier, but what about the R/T Hemi?

Brock Samson

welcome to the site,...  ???

Couga

thanks for the welcome, i just posted up because i saw another member has a cougar, i currently am working on a 71 superbee. :icon_smile_big:

Cool, i have a 69 cougar with the 428CJ engine in. Took me 3 years to rebuilt it to original standards. Please don't be mad at me for having a Ford product. It's kinda strange to have an American made car over here. (Belgium)

I like that cougar, especially the back tires/rims, looks great like that with the big tires.  The side pipes look like they are out of The Road Warrior, cool.

Sixty Eight 426, welcome to the forum.   You may want to start another thread, or better yet ask someone on a Pherd forum. :shruggy:
EDIT:  I should have quoted you, I see you changed the post completely, TROLL.

If I were to venture into another Make car, Pherd would definitely get my attention.  Not counting the fact I liker the Cougars, I just love the rear turn signals on them.  They're an impressive little car,IMO.  There was a kid in high school with one, can't remember the year, but he was always racing someone every weekend.  Usually winning too.

Dang it now you got me wanting one. My dad had a blue 69 400 4bbl with the TH400. He said he smoked a Chebby Camaro in it with bad piston rings.  :icon_smile_big:

For some reason I'm digging the gold color on these.
