XH29N0G should be home pretty soon

Talked with the person whose shop is doing the restoration on my car (Troy Thornton), and he thought they would start test driving it today and that it might be ready next week.

I drove up to see it two and a half weeks ago and was amazed at how different it looks.  It is the same color (EF8) but missing all the characteristic dings and dents, the trailer hitch, the places where the boat winch dented the trunk, the white strip on the side where it rubbed on the garage door, or the small spot in the back I hit when learning how to parallel park in the driveway, plus many other things. Everything lines up so nicely, too.  It was not complete at that time, so I am at the edge of my seat waiting to see the final product.  I will post pictures when it is complete.  The interior is mostly being cleaned up (not replaced), but the outside is completely redone.  The engine was rebuilt by muscle motors (383 stroked to 3.9) and a 5 speed tremec replaces the 3 on the floor that it came with.

The car has a special place for me and my family.  It was ordered a few weeks before my sister was born and arrived two months later.  It was the car I grew up with.  We drove to Florida in it several times, and I remember sitting in the car on the way to 1st -4th grade.  My dad sold it to me when I graduated high school and kept it for me until I had a house to keep it in.  He and my mom asked about it yesterday on the phone and I cannot wait to show it to them when it comes back.

More to come.

Made it home today.   The body is flawless to my eyes and it was fun to drive the 200 miles home.  There are still a few bugs to work out, but I am optimistic those will be pretty straightforward.  I'll be asking plenty of questions.  Some pix (one from my house and two from the shop where it was done).

Nice to see an XH car refreshed  :2thumbs:

Didn't occur to me that there might be some things different, like the back and the interior.  They didn't go through the interior in full.  Seats were repaired in the 1970's.  I think the only things not original may be the carpet, headliner, package tray and radio delete plate (b/c I lost the original radio delete).

Here are some taken at the shop.

It is F8 green.  This is the color that was ordered from the factory - my dad's pick.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm one of the fans of green and the F8 is a good one.  Congratulations on getting it back home.

I like the greens myself and this car looks great.  I think the greens tend to suffer badly when the original factory color, or some bad respray of it, is a decade or two old and fading.  A modern base/clear can turn around that old conception of 'ick' green.

XH chargers have the best tailpanel in 1970. Plus the bench and no upper pads give it the "roadrunner" vibe.

Good job , good car if your that sure of it to drive it for the first time to hundred miles, they say genius pick green  :yesnod: post your little items things to fix , always good advice from these guys, sure to help make it easier to fix

Bob T

That is cool!
It really stands out on account of how many fresh greens do you actually see around, very few I guess. Also I like it as a bench front in a sea of bucket / console and interiors in black.
Be proud mate, nice one  :2thumbs:
