I'm of the opinion if it isn't on tag, then it wasn't made with the option.  Now, this car has DOCUMENTATION that it was taken off the line for a US Senator, as a gift from Ma' MoPar.  Do you all suppose it's possible that the Chrysler execs, had it brought back through to have a roof added ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Steve swears it all looks original.  He can't find a seam from the top where any metal was actually grafted from another car.  I suggested to him that he cut headliner, and look for seams in the metal.  Am I right to say there should only be ONE hole, and there should not be any metal seams???

You will not find a 69 with the M51 on the fender tag. There is a way to tell from the tag though, If you could list all the codes on your tag or place a pic I'll confirm it for you. John
you also will not find the vinyl roof code checked on the build sheet but ALL Chargers that got a sunroof got a top

:iagree: Same deal for 1970. No M51 will appear on the tag, but it will show in the Vehicle Order Number (VON).

Charger Aficionado

wow.  Cool didn't know that one...  I wish I could find one.  I did find one in Canada that the guy was parting out (tan stuff)...  I really wish I knew if I could bring it across the border, because I wouid drive it...

Just 6T9 CHGR

Nope....no M51 on the tag for 1969

The only true way is on the fendertag S/O #

This 6 digit # will start with 928

This code applies for 69......not sure on the 70's??  Chris??

In 1970, you will have an "M" in your VON. It will also not have the roof code on the tag.

Here's an example:

Johnny's car is a VERY early built '70 Charger. The vinyl top is listed on his tag as well as the other early built 70's. After the first 3 or 4 days, the tags were back to normal and the factory stamps were in place.

Thanks for pointing that out, Chris. :2thumbs:

I didn't know that was the case.  :icon_smile_shy:

As Chris said, mine is 2nd day of production (8/02/69), so this definitely is NOT representative of all "70 sun roof car fender tags.  :yesnod:

The digit on mine is 928124.  Does that mean it is the 124th one built?

Did they change the order number style for the "70 sunroof cars?  ???

My order # is: M99116 (Aug. 2, 1969 as stated before)

I don't know if it being a Y16 (Executive Order Car) effects the order # or not though. :shruggy:

The order number on the 70's to be a sunroof is exactly as you typed, instead of a 928 to begin with it was a "M"

I'm really glad Steve has this car now!  (so much better than seeing it sit)!   :yesnod:

Welp, here it is:   :o

PS fellas....this is a pretty rare car as well.......if Steve is reading his codes correctly on his tag, the car is coded for the V21 hood performance treatment as well...
His car is the second sunroof Charger to have the V21 option in the registry.
The other I have is a special order color (99 99) Butterscotch Yellow RT/SE car.   It has a black roof & black interior with black R/T stripe and the V21 option....

Its good to see so many sunroof cars still around. Years ago, my Aunt had a 70 SE [I think] that had a Sunroof. The car got stolen by some neighborhood punks and was found 2 days later wrapped around a telephone pole. :rotz: :icon_smile_dissapprove:  Another Beautiful car meets an untimely demise at the hands of two junkies. Although unhurt in the accident, street justice was delt out by my Uncle weeks later.  :D  A retired US Army Ranger [Viet-Nam] vs. 2 boney ass punks =  :icon_smile_dead: :spank: :icon_smile_blackeye: :icon_smile_dead:

Wow, that's for sure. Even the trunk looks halfway solid! :scope:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I already contacted him......thats how I got the V21 code.....still waiting on pics of the tag

It sounds like there will be alot more "original" sunroof cars popping up in the near future since
there is really no fool proof way of documenting them i.e. buildsheet or fendertag. Bummer

If the fender tag is on the car, the SO number would still have to start with 928(69) or M(70).  IIRC, wouldn't an original sunroof car have a drain line installed down one of the A-pillars that would be hard to retrofit and/or fake?

69_500

I think the drain tubes wouldn't be too hard to duplicate, but the fender tag would have a 928xxx on it, and that would be pretty obvious. Not too many people know that about the sunroof cars. Do the 70 cars have M51 on the buildsheets? I know some of the Challeners with sunroofs I've seen have the M51 on the buildsheet.

Mean 318

would a sunroof on a 74-76A body be the same for a 70 B body?

Alaskan_TA

Nope. The A-Body ones are smaller.

I talked to the gentleman who is selling that car about a year ago. At that time he was selling two HEMI cars. both were just rolling bodies. I believe it was a 68 HEMI RR, and I forget what the other one was. But he was wanting $20K for the rolling body to the RR. I wanted his Charger but at that time he said he wasn't going to part with it.

I wonder what made him change his mind.
