SUREGRIP for DANA 60 Recommendations??

Just like the title says! Looking at replacing tired old suregrip unit out of my dana 60.  At Mopars at the Strip the poor road runner couldn't spin both tires. So i need recommendations on what to put inside the dana 60. Also changing the gears from 3:55 to 4:10.

Heard the Detroit locker was to much for the street, so I would rather gather some info before throwing away money. Thanks

If the Dana has a SG unit installed perhaps it just needs a rebuild ? Both the trac-loc and power-loc are rebuildable with a clutch kit.  :yesnod:

Auto or 4 spd trans ?  Engine size & horsepower ?

The True trac is an awesome unit also , no clutch packs to wear out just gear angle causes the lock up

I am not sure what is in it. i bought it several years ago for my 69 charger. It was a truck rear end that was cut and narrowed to fit b-body. Broke the 489 8 3/4 ring gear in the roadrunner two days before Mopars at the Strip, so in went the dana with cal tracs. I am pretty sure it can be rebuilt but haven't removed cover yet. The motor I am putting in is a 493 Stroker with BRC main caps and girdle and 10.97 compression ratio with fully ported Edelbrocks (84cc). Quench set at .037 with .600 lunati #60334 solid roller cam with Victor intake and 850 Mighty Demon carb (for now). Motor should be installed this coming weekend after cosmetic head gaskets arrive.  Dyno software on computer estimates HP at 662.  Transmission is built 727 with new 3800 Stall converter going in also. Hedman headers with X-pipe TTI 3" exhaust. Also going back and forth on 4:10 or 4:30 gears?

Forgetting anything???

2nd vote for the tru trac. Used them in several vehicles all the way up to army hmmwv's. Drives like an open til you need it. Super smooth operation. You can have one tire in the air and one on the ground and make it lock and crawl out.

That's going to be a nice build !  My 572 makes over 700hp and 725 ftlbs of torque so i opted for the detroit locker when it came time to upgrade the SG unit. It drives fine on the street and i don't even notice it back there. About the same as the old clutch style SG it replaced.  :2thumbs:

I don't think the tru-trac is recommended for drag race applications and they are horsepower limited. I considered the tru-trac but in the end went with the Locker and glad i did.  :yesnod:

As for gearing ; the 4.10 is a better choice for you, the engine will be at peak power around 6k so there's no need to over rev it. I went with 4.10's as well.   ;)

That is what the rearend guy at Sutton told me. Horsepower will kill the Tru Trac on the drag strip.  Anyhow, looks like I might just go with a new DANA 60 anyway. New axles, gears, detroit lock and install kit is going to run upwards of $1300-$1500. Then time to assembly or pay someone. The Diff Doctor, sells the dana S60 for about $2200, so might just go that route and have a bolt in. Or get Sutton in La Harbra, CA to do it. Thanks for the advice guys...
