Just added a new member to the family. He's a rescue dog. Looks like he's got a ton of Border Collie in him, but really none of the personality traits. So far, he's pretty mellow. Quite a bit smaller than a border collie (~20 lbs).  He's about 9 months old.

Anyway, his previous owner gave him the name, "Rollie". The wife and I aren't real keen on the name, and he doesn't answer to it.

We've got a couple alternatives picked out, but are by no means set on anything. Take a look at the photos for inspiration.

Looks like he has 2 different color eyes ??   :shruggy:

If you were a Tiger fan I'd call him Max  ...   as in Scherzer.
Black Betty:  1969 Charger R/T - X9 440 six pack, TKO600 5 speed, 3.73 Dana 60.
Sinnamon:  1969 Charger R/T - T5 440, 727, 3.23 8 3/4 high school sweetheart.

two different colored eyes is common....we had one in our neighborhood and his name was "Doogan"

Yep.  The grey eye / brown eye thing is pretty common in several breeds.

He may not have the traits or personality of a border collie but he sure has the alertness. And he seems eager. Looks like he'll train up well.  :2thumbs:

I'm with adauto on this one.   Sparky would suit.

Our last dog was named Leonard. My wife thinks Sheldon would be appropriate for this one, even though Leonard got his handle long before Big Bang Theory was on the air. Leonard, was actually 'Lynyrd Skynyrd', as named by my brother in law, his first owner. The 'Skynyrd' got dropped once he came into our home. It wasn't that I'm not a fan, but "Lynyrd Skynyrd" was a mouthful when trying to call the dog in.

I wanted to call this one 'Angus', but the wife vetoed it. I'm not sure he has the attitude to carry that name anyway. Ollie, Sammy and Charlie are currently on the list of possibilities.

He's definitely alert. He perks up at the slightest noise. Big change from Leonard who was deaf as a post in is last years. The name Radar came to mind, but was also vetoed.

Keep the suggestions coming.

of the 3 names you posted, he looks like an "Ollie" more than the other 2 names

My opinion, consider the source

Actually I like Radar, suits his alertness.
Or you could go with Bowie (eyes).

river

no good reason, just a cool dog name.

Alaskan_TA

With the non-symmetrical stripe down his face, 'Splash' comes to mind. He is a cute pup.

burnout.dawg

Gunner. Looks like he is on the ready...always alert. Looks like perhaps a little Labrador mixed in there. Cute pup.

I like, but probably a better name for an all white dog. Maybe Bullitt.

How about "Here Dog" since that is what your likely to call him anyways.

My cat was named "Kitty."

Are you saying name the dog Fred?     I don't think it suits him.
On the other hand Bowie is good.     It has meaning and it's short and to the point.........always better for calling a dog.

I've got to say that I for one have never ever called any of my dogs "Here Dog"  or any of my cats "Here Cat" or the horse "Here Horse"   But I guess it's food for thought!
