The odds of actually getting hit by a tornado is pretty low.  I normally don't even bother taking cover once I know where it is heading unless it's directly in my area.  Best I can do is just watch the skies and cross my fingers that I never get hit.  Having seen the damage first hand though several times ( including Joplin) I hope I never get to experience one.
