I want to try a single-pattern camshaft in 383

Car is 68 RR with 383,  4-spd, 3.91 with 27-inch rear tire.  4 into 1 headers with 2.5 exhaust, regular Performer dual plane, 600 cfm Edelbrock 1405.

Right now I use factory pattern cam in 383 HP.  It is .450/.458 lift, 115 LSA, 268/284 duration @ .006, 214/225 @ .050.  IO 21 btdc,  IC 67 abdc,  EO 79 bbdc,  EC 25 atdc.  I have about 145-150 psi cranking compression all around.  It will run on 87 octane with initial timing at 15 btdc and about 40 total.  It's probably 8.8 or 9 to 1 static compression

It's easy to drive, but kind of sedate until you bring the rpms up.  It has passing power when you are already under way.

I want to try a single pattern with about the same lift so I don't have to change springs.  I am interested in low-mid and getting away from a stoplight more than passing people on the interstate.

What's a good single pattern?  Thinking about something like Comp 268H on 110 LSA, or Isky 264 Mega on 108 LSA.  Will they concentrate what power my old beater makes in the low and mid range?  Thanks

I have ran the Purple Shaft 284/284/484/484 and I think the center line is 108 in my 68 Road Runner 383. Hooker Super Comps, Torker intake 600, 750 Holley and a TQ as well. Car has a 727 with 2200 stall and 3:23 gears. I was very pleased with the sound of the idle and pulled well at lower RPM's. (Above 2000 RPM's)

With that being said, I have been told there are much better choices today. But, I still like the old cam and may use it again in the next engine.

Ken I think I'm running the same cam.  It may be old and outdated but it sure works!  The sound at idle is just about perfect and there's plenty torque to play with.  I'll upgrade it one day, Ron gave me a recommendation.  But for now it'll do and do just fine.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Something with a tighter LSA will spike up the torque and midrange power as long as you keep the duration at reasonable levels.  :2thumbs:
