Does anyone sell headlight vacuum switch retainers?

There have been a few threads about this but I've yet to find a yes or no answer to the question. I'm talking about the metal retainer clip designed to hold the rubber vacuum hose block onto the back of the switch. If someone does sell them pease include a link. Thanks.

Guess not. :'(

Well, I've got a couple of local sources I can tap for a used one.

Ghoste

I've never seem them anywhere, hell they've only just recently started to repro the switch.  Big longshot but with it being such a scarcely ordered part (in all likelihood anyway) maybe there is a sympathetic dealer who would run the part number for you.  There could be one sitting on someones dusty shelf somewhere.

bull

That would be a really long longshot. Especially considering the way our local Dodge dealer operates.

Ghoste

I'll try my guy Curtis, local parts manager here is an enthusiast so he's pretty good about stuff like that.

MaximRecoil

Do you need one so that it is correct for a restoration, or do you just need something/anything that will keep the rubber vacuum block from falling off the back of the vacuum switch? If the latter, there must be something that can be rigged up, like a zip tie or something.

I know it sucks not having the real part. I've taken my instrument cluster out a few times, and every time I worry about snapping one of those tiny little springy legs off the vacuum block retainer as I carefully bend them out to unclip it. So far, so good, though.

bull

Yeah, I'm sure I could MacGyver it with a zip tie or something but if I can I'd like to get the right part.

Thanks. I've got one pretty good source here, one mediocre source and one on the miss side of hit and miss. There's also Wildcat but if they have one they'll want $89.99 for it.

Ghoste

Do you happen to have the part number already at hand?

:popcrn: :shruggy: good luck bull , I posted this awhile ago asking for help , even sent messages to dash restoration guru's on here, first pictures of a part needed, but did not have an image of this as it was always missing, if you have any luck post your find and where you might have got it

bull

No, I don't have a part number. I should have bought one of those parts books 10 years ago but... I didn't.

Thanks. :2thumbs:

None of my three local sources had one of these clips. :P One of them has so much stuff you don't know where to begin and I spent about an hour looking there with no luck. The other two specialize in 2nd gen Chargers but no luck there either.

bull

Just went through the parts book I downloaded and unless I'm doing it wrong it seems the clip has no part number. :shruggy:

Ghoste

I haven't been able to find a number but it has to come from somewhere.

bull

Not much luck finding one yet. My three sources had nothing.

Got one from good guy resq302 (Brian) yesterday. :2thumbs: Seems like something that wouldn't be too hard to replicate but then it's probably spring steel by the look and feel of it. Anyway, thanks again Brian!

Hey, I just noticed something. See that first pic I posted up top that looks the same as the one in the book? They're different than the one you sent me. Yours has long, continuous tabs along the sides but the ones above have several short tabs. Those must be the 68 version and yours is for a 69. Weird. :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

resq302

Wonder if it was a revision or maybe they had two different suppliers?   :shruggy:  Hopefully it fits?  If not, send it back and I will gladly send you your money back.

My 69 bracket looks like the top one but I'll confirm when I pull the cluster which should happen soon.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

UFO

There's a connector listed(in the '69 book) that is part # 2857908, which changes to part #3671410.
In 1989  3671410 was available at a retail price of $2.05.

"edit" Looking at the '68 book it calls for two connectors needed.I have a feeling this number(2857908) is for the connection at the rad cradle.
With no section number after the part name could very well mean it's not serviced or it comes with the lines as a pkge.

Thanks, I'll try it tonight. I would have tried it already but I took a bunch of pics and measurements so a guy could look at it and see about replicating it. He already told me no one is going to bother with stamping them unlesss they can sell a bazillion of them.

If I had to guess I'd guess that the one you sent me is an improved version that encases the block more securely than the small tabs version. :shruggy:

If you're talking about that 'W' looking connector in the book it almost looks like the one found on the alternator.

bull

It's in and it's doing its job as we speak. :2thumbs:

There's a retainer on Ebay right now but as far as the rubber block you'd either have to make one or buy a used hose set that has one with it. Just curious, how do you attach your hoses now? Or do you?
