I was looking at this car and noticed the vin is 14 digits. Isn't it only suppose to be 13. And he claims its an RT but the engine code is 383 if I'm reading it right. And the H should be an S for R/T package. Any one help me out here.

ask him for a pic of VIN on dash or have him write it down....title has too many digits as well

Ghoste

383 (four barrel) was the standard engine in a 70 Challenger RT, however everything else you mentioned is spot on.

seller says it's a Hemi...although engine & trans are gone...along with everything else

i very much doubt thats a real hemi car ,  sure looks like one thats been for sale a good while , although i cant be sure  :scratchchin:
if i was a real  hemi car , think it would of been sold   , or the bidding at stupid money already  :scratchchin:

I might pass on this one. I looked at his feedback and he has never sold anything except another car and the buyer wrote:

"Never responded after I purchased"

So I'm not sure if he knows what he's doing or what is going on. But I'm not close to check out and it's almost over anyway. From the pics ther is a tranny in the car. You can see it through the floor board.

383 2 barrel non-R/T

R/T would be JS not JH

All Challenger R/T's came with Rallye dash as standard.....this one has the standard dash.

It's possible that the owner doesn't know a thing about Mopars and just picked an engine from the list when creating the ad. The color is probably original but it looks like a "converted" R/T from a long time back. If you take a look at mine it has been that way for a veeeery long time. A factory R/T wouldn't have had a blacked out tail panel (along with the gauges mentioned earlier). I have no explanation for the extra digits in the VIN except typographical error. I bet the VIN tag doesn't have the extra digit. Judging by the title, 2006 would have been around the time prices went through the roof and lots of cars were being turned over. Perhaps someone got overanxious and grabbed something without full knowledge? That transmission is NOT a factory Mopar 4-speed. Looks like something more modern.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Troy - Blacked out tail panel only on T/A's.....other than that - spot on!

No editing on my part. It's good to be clear in case anyone reads it in the future.

As for the price, there doesn't appear to be much rust. I could certainly use the fenders and taillights if they are in good shape and nice hoods and grills bring decent money. For someone wanting to clone an R/T I don't think it's a horrible start. That's less than what I paid for my 340 Challenger and it's probably rougher outside (but has a more complete interior).
